From what I gather that is the asking price and it hasn't sold yet. Be interesting to see what it actually sells for.

Everyone is going apeshit over those guys

My Mom and sister drove from Corpus Christi area to Baton Rouge, via Waco just so they could stop at the Magnolia Market.

Only problem I see is that if the house's current sale and rental value is inflated because of the TV show, will it cause the value to depreciate back to being in line with the rest of the area once the TV show is off the air and Chip and Joanna's 15 minutes of fame runs out?
Might be a lot longer than 15 minutes. As mentioned, white women are going nuts over this show. My wife's best friend planned her bachelorette party in Austin but she has two days scheduled in Waco solely to explore the Fixer Upper empire.
Chip and Joanna haven't even left Waco yet. It's only a matter of time before they start doing specials in other cities, filming consultations with celebrities, and doing more reality-TV style shows online. I wouldn't be surprised to see them get a daytime talk show with Joanna being the host. They're essentially the current era's Rachel Ray. Even when they eventually fall out of the spotlight, they'll still have a strong following that will continue to show them support.

I like them, although I think they've already started to fade

I wonder what the show is doing to the regular real estate market there?
When I watch, it seems like they are constantly buying 4 BR, 3 BA houses at 2600 square feet that just need a little work for something like $87 in total.

It has listed the "Barndominium" for sale at $1.2 million for about a month. With 5 bedrooms and 2 baths on 16 acres, it's located in Lacy Lakeview, just outside Waco.
not hard to believe
but this?

a 1-bedroom, 1 bath, 1,050-square-foot house in Waco that the Gaineses had featured on the show was selling for $950,000. Do the math. That's $904.76 a square foot.
Can someone make sense of this?

Any hope of making a decent return will fade away with the show. Sure there are solid bookings with Airbnb right now. My daughter lives in Waco and I tried to get a hotel room one weekend and couldn't find a thing in town. It was because of that market. I finally found an opening at a super 8 and they wanted $549 for one night!

She'd rake in the ratings.
Doesn't sound like they want to leave Waco and that farm. They have 4 kids and talking about another one supposedly.
Maybe if they filmed the show in Waco and included some weight-loss and dental hygiene tips for the crowd.

In fairness to that poster, hotel rates can fluctuate wildly depending on occupancy. I once paid $350 for a room at the Holiday Inn Express in fricking Leesville to attend an event at Fort Polk. I flew there from Manhattan where I had a two room suite in a Hilton for $300 a night.

Property around Waco is very cheap, these are waaayyyy overpriced for the market. I've seen the tiny house, it's not far from campus, it's nice but not $900,000 nice for sure.

Football weekends, Family weekend, graduation weekend all the hotel rates triple. Hell LaQuinta next to the university is really old and they charge $275 a night and up anytime something is going on. I drive 30 miles up the interstate and get a suite under $100.
