I’m here for work. Putting in a concrete plant down the road. Seems there’s a travel ball tourney here this week. My hotel backs up to another hotel and both of the pools back up to each other. My room overlooks this, of course.

It was fricking Lord of the Flies out there until about midnight. Wish I had those little duckers’ room numbers and I woulda gotten them up at 4AM with me.

....it's July in Pigeon Forge. Every hotel, motel, and cabin is going to be booked with families vacationing.

Growing up we would always go at the end of August, beginning of September, and stay at Elkmont Campground. Dad would always make sure we had a stream spot.

As a kid I thought, well this is dumb. The hotels in town are cool plus all of the shopping and trashy junk shops.

Now I'm 42, and I absolutely get it. Zero interest in Pigeon Forge or Gatlinburg. Give me a week of doing nothing but sitting in a chair next to the stream sipping coffee and manning the grill.

Dinner shows, tacky museums and fun centers, and Dollywood (which is actually a pretty awesome park).

They have The Ripken Experience there, so they have big tournaments all summer long.

I have a question about your gif. How is his arm moving if it's a newspaper? Is it some kind of magical, Harry Potter newspaper?

Yeah, Dollywood is actually a great park.

Pigeon Forge is like a little Myrtle Beach without the ocean.

Was there the week after the 4th. We stayed in a house up in the mountains in Weir(sp) Valley. Loved it up there, the views were great and some yearling bear cubs came around every morning. Going into town did suck. Pigeon Forge wasn’t too bad traffic wise. Had a very good brunch one day at a place called Brick and Spoon. Gatlinburg on the other hand was a shite show. It was like Bourbon Street for Flanders with vehicle traffic. Nightmare getting in and out of that place. Had a mediocre at best lunch at Jason Aldean’s.

An unfortunate indicator the east Tennessee will not be the sleepy mountain getaway we Gen-x remember from our past.

The whole area sounds like purgatory, lol. I joined some fb groups to read up on it because I was thinking of taking a vacay there. It didn’t take long to say no, not interested. Now a cabin in the national park just to chill sounds nice.
