I ran into a guy the other day with a Vet service dog. I started a conversation and asked him what he did (as an AF vet myself I was wondering).

He was a POG, had zero exposure to death and destruction and yet needed a emotional support dog.

I’m not talking a seeing eye dog. I’m talking the 50 year old milf with a lap dog that has a picture ID hanging from it’s harness.

That is an emotional support animal.

FYI - a lot of people get their dogs designated as service animals to make flying easier. Has nothing to do with being an attention whore. I’ve read some horror stories about bringing your animals on a plane the conventional way in the cargo hold.

If the animal is well behaved, I can let it go. I've seen a service dog in a store and the dog was pulling against it's owner for everything, couldn't sit still. That's someone who bought a vest on ebay or something.

Service dog or emotional support animal?

2 very different things.

Don’t you love when people bitch about things and don’t even know the proper terminology for what they are bitching about?

Big dog - "What a good boy doing his job"

Little dog - "What a lying piece of shite"

Other animal - "That person probably needs to be in an asylum"

No they don’t. They get them designated as a support animal.

Huge difference.

A service animal is one that has been specially trained to assist with some disability or medical issue. A doctor’s letter doesn’t make an animal into a service animal.

Service dogs are legit- they are well trained ( at costs upwards to $20K). They are well behaved and obedient to the handler. They have been trained for a specific service e.g

seeing eye, siezure alert, physical assistance alert( often for those who are handicapped) etc

Most of what you see are pets who owners claim are for emotional support and have had no training or certification.

Don't assume all animals are true service dogs anymore than you assume anyone wearing camouflage and combat boots served in the military

Actual service dogs are usually pretty easy to spot IMO

You forgot that those pet owners paid to get fake “certification” that they don’t even need plus a little vest.

Wait. Are we talking about a guy with a lab, dark glasses, and a cane or some twat with a chihuahua in a purse?

I am very tolerant of service dogs if the person is obviously blind.
