exercise or anti-depressants could do those things for him too.

Except anti-depressants will make him suicidal. Nobody should take that garbage.

No.. basically he can control a computer with his thoughts now. Able to move a mouse, play specifically designed applications

When your body is a straight-jacket, something like that must be like a starving man stumbling upon a free buffet.

The below info in the OP would have been really helpful.

quote:

Neuralink develops an implantable brain-computer interface (BCI) to help people control technology with their thoughts. Its surgical robot implants threads connected to a chip, which then interprets neural activity to move computer cursors or other devices. The primary goal is to assist people with paralysis by allowing them to operate computers and smartphones through thought alone

He’s a quadriplegic

Ok, so maybe exercise wouldn't have worked in this case.

My point being, I understand the impact this is had on his life, but why has it had the impact.

The implant allows him to control a computer cursor with his thoughts, enabling him to perform digital tasks.[5][6] Despite encountering some issues with the chip, he has been able again to play games like The Battle of Polytopia, Civilization 6, and chess.[4][7]

That's some cool stuff. Imagine how much untapped potential there is for tech like this. We could literally "cure" paralysis in the future.
