I have 3 kids and my oldest is ready to finally ride a bike with no training wheels. She is very shy and my middle child is very close to being ready also. So I'm thinking about splurging on a decent "first bike" in the $200-350 range. Something with hand brakes, on the lighter side, and built well. There's a ton of options out there especially online.

Not a huge bike rider so don't really know what's out there but we live on a quiet cul-de-sac so I expect it to get a lot of use through 3 kids. There are options like rubber belt instead of chains.

Any recommendations? Will be used by 4-6/7 year olds, looking at 16" tires.

They will outgrow the bike in about 2 years. Spend $100 at Academy and be done with it

Going to have to double or triple that if you want something decent.

Got a Schwinn similar to this for my daughter.. It's well made...

Check to see if it comes with a kick stand.. Their's originally had training wheels, so I had to purchase a kick stand separately..

Schwinn

My son has the boy's version, and has laid it down many times and it held up pretty well...

I was prepared for this so it doesn’t bother me.

The OT hates on Walmart but yet I want to buy a local bike shop bike and the price seems absurd!

A really good kids bike is $250-350 today. An amazing kids bike is $450 or more.

You can spend $5000+ on a top of the line adult bike. $300 for a damn good kids bike that actually still works in 3 years is money well spent.
