Asthma wasn’t shown to be a risk factor in the studies done in Asia.
I’m not buying this
Asthma/COPD/ reactive airway disease ailment is a big factor for people who have respiratory illnesses and why they are susceptible to complications

Maybe some folks with underlying conditions such as asthma (or those who have friends/love ones with asthma) will see this and take it a little more seriously.
Don't they have to take the same precautions when it's the flu season because of having asthma?

Obesity is also a major factor, and there are alot more obese americans than smokers. It could do some serious damage here considering how unhealthy many Americans are.
Good riddance imo. It will cut healthcare costs in the long run

Half of the US has some sort of cardiovascular issue, 40% are obese, and a third are diabetic. Each of those populations are larger than all of Italy. What part of this is difficult to understand?
Same can be said for people that get the flu. Take a chill pill.

The only mental help I need is for people to chill the frick out dude

Yet folks downvote me when I suggest exercising and putting the fork down. Don’t take care of your body, it will take care of you, especially in a situation when you need it to ward off disease

It’s possible but the only study out of China said it wasn’t a risk factor. Until we have more information we don’t know.
It could definitely trigger and asthma attack, but ARDS from viral pneumonia is very different from an asthma attack both in terms of mechanism and treatment.
So it’s not as simple as, they are both respiratory diseases.

Glad I wasn't the only one to catch that. Likely scarred lungs from years of battling asthma greatly contributed to his feeling like he was drowning.

What is asthmatic pneumonia?
Something that will land a kid in the ICU for a week straight of albuerol, positive oxygen pressure, and steroids. And could cost you upwards of $70,000 if you didn’t have insurance. It’s a serious thing, and could kill you. My son had it in November, from the enterovirus. Thank God I have good insurance, is all I have to say.

No chief, I travel a lot with a lot of trips abroad. But no freaking way would I take a bunch of school kids to Italy in mid-February in the face of this thing. Nor would I have taken a cruise on the Nile or anywhere else. I'll bet that half the cases in the US stem from people who went on a cruise and most of the rest come from people who just had to go ahead with their trips to Italy.

It’s no wonder he needed ICU for a respiratory virus.
And he looks 10 years older than 48.

Yeah that is a really rough looking 48.

Yea that’s a rough 48
It doesn’t sound like he was ever intubated. I’m sure it sucked for him but this seems like a sensationalized story.
