First automobile for new driver

My first vehicle was a Chevrolet Celebrity
My son is turning 16 in a few days. I had to earn my way up to a nicer vehicle which happened over time. I want him to do the same while keeping him safe in something that isn't a complete POS and, because I don't expect to keep it long-term, something that won't break the bank. Should I go straight to Facebook marketplace? whats a good starter vehicle for a 16 yr old boy?

Would you like the name of my first pet and the street I grew up on too?
I like the new preventative safety systems in the newer vehicles for new drivers. Blind spot indicators and FCA a must.
K4 is what I'll probably end up getting for mine. Or something comparable, but I can't stand the Corolla

2024 Ford F150 Platinum lifted on 37's can probably get him to school.

Buy him a manual MINI Cooper. Teach him how to drive stick.

All of my kids drove an old used farm truck for a year. They could not get any tickets or be at fault in any accidents to get a better used car after. They weren't thrilled about it, but it worked and they all got a better used car later.

Meh, in 6 months, there's a good chance it will have some dings on the door and may be missing the bumper.
So, I'd say it's a good choice.

Why, so he can get all pissed off driving it to only never drive one again unless he gets older and decides to buy an old car with one?
Manual is gone brotha.

1985 Chevy Silverado and mine was blue. I miss that truck and would love another ,but not many are floating around in Germany.

find an older Accord (early 2010s).
basically bulletproof and doesn't have a lot of tech so he will have to actually learn to drive:
look behind him (no backup camera)
check mirrors/blind spots (no radar)
keep the space between his vehicle and the vehicle in front of him
not look at the touch screen (there isn't one - at best, he can use an aux adaptor for bluetooth for streaming music

Not me, I wanted my kids to live dangerously just like we did in the old days.

Get him a older full size truck from the 90s or earlier. He can learn to fix/maintain it and you won’t have to worry if he messes it up. Insurance cheaper as well.
