We have a gas fireplace which we light up each cold morning. Nothing like drinking a cup of coffee in front of a fire prior to starting your workday

Gas is cleaner and no smoke smell or ashes.
Traditional puts off more heat and is more “fun”.
Personally I love the smell of a real fire burning in the fall so I prefer traditional but I also see the benefits of gas (cleaner, less maintenance, no cutting or buying firewood.

I have a wood fireplace and I love it. I have access to a lot of firewood when I want to cut down trees on the farm. If I had to pay for firewood, I would go with gas.

Have had wood my whole life until new house two years ago, gas.
I will never go back to wood.

I'm not so sure about that. Our gas fireplace is enclosed and it gets real hot.

Mine is built with both.
I use the gas to get the wood started, then cut the gas off when it gets enough embers to keep it going.
If I have to choose between the two, Traditional.

Whats the boards opinion on the faux electric fire place? The wife says she wants one.
Put one in the new house and I really like it. We use it more than we ever did the gas or wood fireplace. Don't go cheap, get one that is at least $1,000.

I'm installing both in new house. Gas in living room, wood fireplace on large covered back porch.

We have gas but I would rather have wood and will in our next house.

You are really racking up the 'downvotes'. You are aware when you get to a net 650 your posting will be restricted?

Someone tried to tell me I didn't serve in Afghanistan. How would that make you feel? Aside from that I've mind my own business like Dwvidthegnome and posted....I can't help it if people are dicks.

Agree on this one.
I bought a cheap one for the office, but it was trash and the bulbs burnt fairly quickly and doesn’t produce enough heat.
Before that one bought one at home at RTG and got an entertainment center TV console with one. Much better in quality, but it wasn’t 1,000. It still works and makes heat.
