Wheel bearing goes out.

Wheel seizes up.

Iron dust.

Iron dust catches fire.

Wooden structure follows.

NOLA is saying they had workers grinding on the tracks. They tried to use hand held extinguishers but I am guessing the 15-20mph wind spread it pretty quick. The wind will be a major factor in getting this one under control.

To be fair, most people haven't seen an big arse fire on a train trestle.

That section of trestle was a bottleneck in the national rail network.

Well, it's going to have to be rebuilt now.

That'll be good money for a prestress and a construction firm, they'll want to replace it quickly.

Maybe cutting something with a torch and a hot piece dropped in the grass

Eta: That part right there is all grass and fingers of water IIRC. Should be pretty easy to stop if they can get some equipment out there quickly. The timber on the west side of the spillway is beautiful cypress and ash trees. East side is chock full of garbage trees and shrubs

Me too.

The problem railroads sometime encounter in these scenarios is that they can't get legal permission (Corps, State, etc) to build a parallel track alongside their ROW. I don't specifically know it that was true in this case but now KCS is in a pickle.

On the spillway now l, they have multiple helicopters circling it. Can't tell if they are news or people trying to put it out. I thought it was a big Marsh fire until just now

Looks like this will be a major headache for freight transportation and the folks who depend on it.

Maybe or maybe not.. Just a "few" reroutes... Might take some over the river to Livonia and run down to Avondale and cross over down there...who knows
