They vary depending on their ability to filter and distinguish different noises. The more expensive ones help distinguish conversations directed to you versus people talking in the background. A pair can vary from $3000 to $6000. Insurance sometimes covers a portion of the cost. My father-in-law got his free through the VA. I bought the more expensive ones at a discount through insurance.

Thanks.
So insurance will cover some of it? Good to know. I had been told that insurance would pay nothing.

Anyone have a doctor or audiologist in Baton Rouge they recommend? I would love to get husband's hearing checked but have no idea where to start. (He knows it is an issue not just me trying to make him listen to my nagging.)

your hearing aids double as bluetooth headphones? I guess that's kind of cool

The first place I went couldn’t apply my insurance discount on the hearing aids. I had to be tested all over again at a second audiologist, listed below. The testing was a lot more thorough at the second location.

Mine was actually a discount versus direct insurance coverage. My insurance website directed me to call a company that provides a referral and discount through select audiologists. I assume the insurance, referral company and audiologist share the discount expense. Think I saved about $800 versus the price given at the first audiologist.

I lost my hearing in the Army and am going through what you are currently going through with the higher sound waves, which is my wife's voice level. Since I am still active duty I have to have an annual hearing check and the annual downward slide has been pretty bad over the years.
I was issued Bluetooth hearing aids last year, ReSound brand. They were nice and were programmable with an iPhone but I did not like them. I tried all kinds of tweaking but they still amplified all of the little noises that I do not need to hear amplified such as typing on a keyboard, opening a door, or pots banging in the kitchen when I am in the other room. I hated having that much background noise amplified just to be able to hear a little bit better. I stopped wearing them in September.
Sorry you are going through this, but I have adapted and overcome as much as I could. I got rid of my 5.1 theater setup in the living room and purchased a Samsung Soundbar that has a clear voice setting so I can understand conversations on TV better. I still have to have closed captions on 50% of the time.
Good luck with your new hearing aids. I did love listening to Pandora in meetings at work and nobody knew.

I’m glad you got them, now please use them. My FIL has hearing aids and does not wear them unless he is going to the doctor and has to hear what the doc says. I have a headache after leaving his house from repeating and yelling 2-3 times everything I say.
His wife bitches about it too. He is a really nice guy but this puts dampers on any conversation with him.

Mine have three different default settings to adjust background noise that I change with my iPhone ap. They were manufactured by Oticon. I haven’t had any issues the couple of days I’ve had mine, but I haven’t had many opportunities in different environments.
