“And please tell the lackey cops” was decoded to mean “I am 1st LT Robert Rackstraw,” according to Colbert.

always an intriguing story, ah the good old days, when all a hijacker wanted was either money or political asylum

No one ever likes the mundane and, by far, most likely explanation that Cooper died when he jumped.

But to die in a way that conceals the body and parachute, would be a perfect million to one shot. It was 1971, not 1771. A dead body and big arse parachute aren't that hard to locate when you have a small army of searchers.

If I remember correct he jumped over a large forested area where his body could have easily gone undetected.

Rackstraw wouldn't commit. So Colbert later emailed with a harder sell, advising that if he didn't get on board, he and everyone who knows him would be hounded forever.

If that dude was DB Cooper, and had the background this guy said he had, Colbert sure had balls. Because if I was who he thought I was, and he came after me like that, they’d never find the body.

So, is D.B. cooper like a quarterly post?

Should we expect a new “they found D.B. Cooper” every few months?

Not likely, and there have been multiple searches, not to mention treasure hunters looking for the money.

Again,it's possible that he died and the river swept he and the chute away, but it would have almost had to sweep him all the way to sea, just to get into a big enough body of water to be concealed forever.

If he did die from the jump, the only explanation I can come up with is that someone found him, but concealed (buried) his body and chute so they could keep the money.

Which is very possible. I think a huge percentage of people would do that if they found a dead guy with a lot of money.

Wow, that Colbert guy was a jerk, must be something in the name. This story is an example of how one can spin a bunch of disparate facts into a narrative, but is probably not true.

Scott, who was flying the aircraft manually, later determined that his flight path was significantly farther east than initially assumed.

Continental Airlines pilot Tom Bohan, who was flying four minutes behind Flight 305, indicated that the wind direction factored into drop zone calculations had been wrong, possibly by as much as 80 degrees.

All searches have been in the wrong area. And Mt St Helens probably burned up any remaining evidence since then.

Also, his reserve chute was for training purposes only, and had been sewn shut. Something he did not notice. So its more than likely that he didn't survive the jump. And due to the heavy rain storm, his body was instantly entombed in a mudhole and wouldn't be spotted in a search. The force of impact also broke open the money sack, which is why some of the bills washed up on the riverbank.
