My truck has a mode where I can shift gears with paddles if I get bored with automatic transmission. Maybe this is similar

Why would they do this?
If you read the article, you'd know.

Maranello openly admits the decision to develop a physical shifter and clutch pedal that allowed 12 Cilindri Manuale drivers to control the car’s dual-clutch transmission was made purely in response to customer demand. Replacing the 12 Cilindri’s slick eight-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) with a conventional manual was a nonstarter, however. Not only would that have required a wholesale rework of the car’s floorpan, but there were no conventional manuals that could handle the 818 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque pumped out by the screaming V-12

Just don’t tell that gorgeous girl that gets in the car with you that the gear shift is fake. She will be impressed at what an old fashioned macho man you are shifting thru the gears of that hot sports car!

they unveiled the Luce and then went “oh shite oh frick” so they decided to throw some red meat to their customer base

I have no respect for those that don’t know or are not willing to learn stick. It’s a must for any car enthusiast. Even if paddle shifters are quicker these days, you are robbing yourself of the driving experience and thrill.

If you're worried about burning up the clutch, you can't afford to buy a Ferrari.

I don't think any automaker comes across as more pretentious than Ferrari.

It really isn't as "fake" as people are suggesting ITT. It is really just clutch and shifter by wire. If you drive a semi-modern car there is a good chance you do not have a physical connection between the accelerator and throttle bodies, so drive by wire. In this car you still control the clutch(es) with the clutch pedal there is just no physical connection, the same with the shifter. You can still stall the car for example. If they get the software right it will basically be impossible to tell from a great manual box, though Ferrari never made a great manual box so there is that.
In the end you have to manipulate the 3 inputs in the same manner as an old school manual. However, it won't make a money shift what a lot of modern manuals won't either and there is no good reason they should. It is an interesting concept which I don't think will do well but it gives you the option of being fast when you want to be and more in control when you prefer to be.

Who in the hell wants a high performance car where you can’t manually smash through the gears.

Just get a real manual? I don't understand this.
That's for millennials who can afford them now but can't drive a stick.

This is the car that you need to buy the others to get. The 12 cilindri is amazing

Again, this is not how the system works. If you can't drive a manual then you can't drive the Manuale. You still have to manipulate the clutch bite/accelerator or you will stall the car. The car doesn't control the clutch for you, it is just clutch by wire vs having a physical connection. It requires the same skill and muscle memory to drive as an well designed old-school manual. Ferrari isn't the first, Koenigsegg does this on their 850CC.
I circled back around to this because I was thinking how cool it would be if you could adjust the clutch bite and position. I have never had a manual transmission that I didn't wish I could adjust these without modifying th car.

That’s a much more interesting setup than I figured it would be for controlling the DCT. I retract my previous statement, this might be a pretty cool car. I’ve always liked the idea of having the clutch for 1st gear but then letting me go clutch less if I want to bang gears like I have a sequential. I bet they could have a mode to simulate that. Without the monthly rebuilds a real seq needs.
I imagine that would be configurable. I’ve done similar things with touch point position and pressure adjustments on dcts to change up where they grab and that’s on old tech.

It was a simple joke my man, didn't need a forensic dissertation to explain it...

I cant stand fake sticks and engine sounds in electric cars.
I have an EV, and I rolleyes everytime I see the fake grill on the front.

Fake engine sounds, at low speeds, are so pedestrians don’t walk in front of a quiet car.
The fake engine sounds are a good idea. Pedestrians are subconsciously tuned in to engine noise and will walk right out in front of a totally quiet car.

You know the Pontiac Solstice is looking pretty good these days…

How about just building an actual standard transmission car for the people who want to drive a stick?
