It's your property, do whatever you want.

If his fence is 8 inches from his property line and you put your fence on your property line, there will be 8 inches of space between them and your fences won't touch, which is what he wants.
What is the issue?
If I was OP, I wouldnt have planned on using a fence on the side my neighbor put his. I would have just built the other necessary sides and connected to his. But douche frick neighbor seems to say he isnt allowed to do this

My neighbor moved in a week before me and immediately put a fence up. He just came over while I was outside and asked if I was going to get a fence I told him yes and he told me hat he put his fence 8 inches back onto his property and didn't want my fence to touch his
He's using "fence" as a code word for penis. You moved into a Gayborhood dude.

Maybe I'm an idiot, but what does that have to do with him not putting the fence on the property line and why he doesn't want the fences touching?

Ask him if you tie the other fence lines into his and then enjoy the extra sq fts.
Don't need a survey, seems like he already knows where the property line is.

At this point I would do anything. Just let his fence be your fence. It sounds like he screwed himself.
Well he will have a fence on one side of his house but his back and front fence with the gate won't be able to tie into the existing fence so it will look like shite. This is a special type of idiot you are going to be dealing with. Sucks you live next to him.

Sounds like he's just a fricking idiot, not crazy

You are worried hat your dog can escape through the 8" separation between your property line and his fence? Just trying to understand the question.

He already said no in the OP.
I think there are 3 of us in this thread that understands the problem.

Need pics of fence and neighbor's wife to make an opinion.
Posted on 8/4/17 at 2:30 pm to TowBROater
Yeah, I mean I guess just put in on the property line if you need fencing too.
I would think the overgrowth in between the fences might try and poke out through your fence eventually though. Maintaining the gap seems difficult

Sounds like your only option is to move. Sorry man.

If his wood fence is touching the ground and it will contain the dogs I wouldn't worry about another fence.
I'd get a yard shock collar to confine the dogs.

That's a good idea.

How can he tie in the fences he wants to build now? Douche neighbor is going to make him build another fence on his side?
OP: If he says no at first to you tying your fence in, maybe offer him half of what he paid for that one side of the fence? Then he would maybe let you tie it in
Posted on 8/4/17 at 2:33 pm to TowBROater
Understand completely. Yeah he dicked you over by not letting you tie into it for just those 8". It looks like your going to have tonfence that side of your yard if you want to make it look good and completely enclose it
