Female prosecutor suspended from her job over claims she had inappropriate affairs

A top Missouri prosecutor has been suspended over allegations she had affairs with three men, including an illegal immigrant accused of sexual assault.

Ray County Prosecutor Camille Johnston, 46, was hit with a 'writ of quo warranto' this week by the Missouri Attorney General's Office alleging she abused her office to have inappropriate relationships.

According to the filing to remove her from the role, one of Johnston's romantic relationships was with a defense attorney representing several criminal defendants in cases prosecuted by Ray County.

She also allegedly had an affair with an illegal immigrant, identified by KSHB as Juan David Gutierrez, who is accused of sexually assaulting another woman.

Gutierrez was being prosecuted in Ray County, but she allegedly gave her vehicle to him to help him abscond to Florida, where she then went on vacation with him, the filing stated.

Alongside the two alleged affairs, Johnson also carried out a sexual relationship with another defendant in a criminal case, and fired an employee who discovered it, the filing claimed.

Johnson was accused of an 'obvious appearance of a conflict of interest' in her handling of a number of cases, which meant she had 'forfeited the office of prosecuting attorney.'

After Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway filed documents to remove Johnston from office on Thursday, a judge swiftly approved a preliminary order suspending her.
