i am in cybersecurity and can confirm that 90% of the women i work with are not great programmers or engineers.
i emphasize the 90%, because i know some that are sharp as a tack, but there are more than a couple that are clearly diversity hires. networking, programming, and coding is a pure merit based world. you're either good at it and capable at your job or not.

I've managed many software developers. My first reaction to this woman's comments was that they're wrong in several ways.
Then I realized, what she is saying is EXACTLY what female developers need to hear... whether it's 100% true or not. Put down your purses, stop worrying about your hoo-ha (i.e. DEI shite). The keyboard's that way.
Where is she wrong? Well, the guy who's toiling away in the middle of the night all the time might not be that good. Yes, sometimes it reflects that he's "in the zone," something brilliant is forming in his mind, and he doesn't give a shite what time it is. He wants to make this thing.
Or maybe he's just not that good. Or maybe he sucks at estimation, or at communicating his workload. Maybe his management sucks, in which case he'll leave, if he's really good.
I think roughly half of college students of either sex have the innate ability to program a computer. The rest will never get it.
A lot of women just don't want to program a computer. Those that really do face no particular obstacle in doing so. (I think she and I agree on that.)

Her experience is my experience. I’m in Engineering. I have recruited some very good women engineers, but very few of them put in the work that a substantial number of men do. In general, men want it more. THAT’s a fact!
