Not sure if right place to post, but here i go.
My organization is hiring for a temporary position. We interviewed an individual and seems he could be good. Our organization does not screen for prior felonies (for whatever reason). We got word he is a felon. Is There a database of public access to look up felonies. I've searched to no avail.

If your organization doesn't screen for felonies then why are you worried about it
Particularly since it sounds like it's based on rumor

Why should this person have a serious background check while nobody else gets one?

Damn dude, be cool. I need this job

What crime did he supposedly commit?

There's an episode of The Office about how to handle this.

Then sounds like a personal problem.
Good luck if you get caught screening this guy when your company policy is that you don’t.

Yep. Sounds like OP is opening his company up to a discrimination suit. Good luck with that.

Excons need jobs too. Otherwise they go back to crime.

Just ask him who he voted for in 2016 and see how he reacts

You better background check every employee to the same standard if you go thru with this

Here is your answer.

The criminal is undoubtedly smarter than you.

In spite of all the rainbow farting going on in this thread, it’s the details that are important regarding a prior felony.
What was the felony? How long ago? What’s the person been up to since then? What type of job is it?
If the person was convicted of stealing large amounts of money from their employer, and the crime was only a few years ago, and they have no work reference since that time, I would think that’s relevant information for a prospective employer.

As been pointed out by almost everyone else,if his company doesn't screen for it, that's the end of story. If it matters, they should make it company policy.

What kind of company do you work for?

Yeah, and they should screen every prospective employee the same way.
