The biggest travesty is how much the government takes.

I have an uncle who was like this. He should have been able to live comfortably the rest of his life

My dad and his brother are a year apart in age. Same amount of kids. My dad made decent money while my uncle worked overseas. We lived in small homes, vacation every other year, drove used vehicles and none of us had a vehicle in high school. My uncle always had the nice house, pool, 4 wheelers, big vacations and my cousin had a vehicle at 14.

My dad is retired and living comfortable while my uncle is living in a one bedroom apartment struggling to make ends meet.

$665,000 seems low for a surgeon? What ‘specialty’ would he do that low at 50? Aren’t most specialized surgeons in the $1 mil plus range?

It’s very easy to spend money when you are wealthy.

That $150 meal is now $400 with a nice bottle of wine and extra app.

Probably multiple memberships like ridiculous gym and country club.

High end car leases, could be $5-10k/ month.

As said, multiple nice vacations.

They are idiots, 60 mins on a budgeting app and they could easily find $100k a year most likely.

I paid 12k a month in taxes in 2023 and I will still owe between 7 to 10k in April.

It’s fricking brutal. Property tax in Baton Rouge just went up to 7k a year on my house and the houses I’m looking at in Houston are anywhere from 15k to 30k a year depending on the tax rate and the stupid mud tax.

Eh. Probably above average for most specialities not ortho/nsgy spine, cardiothoracic. I think people overestimate what "surgeons" make.

Of course those that have a bunch of ancillary services(imaging centers, surgery centers, real estate/med offices etc) bring in a higher annual income vs those who just paid on productivity/services they provide.

It's leaving out the majority of relevant details

And if he's paying for college for his kids...again that is his choice

He's still stupid with money if he is struggling on that income
