Hell St Jude is kinda bad. A huge part of their budget goes to marketing their charity. Pretty much every city larger than 500000 people or so has a dedicated St Jude field office. I know the girl who runs one of them, she makes 6 figures.

Not sure why this would be surprising. Organizations of that size need full time employees that can manage large companies. You have to pay those people a salary that can provide a living or no one will want to do it long term. Being non-profit doesn’t mean you can’t make a living working there.

There should be no question about whether STJ directs enough of their money towards their patients.

As the father of a former STJ patient, I can confidently tell you that their level of care is unsurpassed in the entire medical industry.

4 years of active treatment and annual followups for life with not one single bill being passed onto the patient.

Yeah. Someone making $100k at a major charity like St. Jude will need to be bringing in $2 to $5M a year...or they’ll be shown the door.

These are essentially high performing sales people who could work in the private sector, and their wages need to remain competitive. Otherwise you end up with a revolving door of fundraisers.

This.

The fact is that unless you donate your money to a very specific cause, like buying a new computer for a school then charity work is expensive.

If you want good people working for a charity, you have to pay a competitive wage. I've never understood why people don't get that. A lot of charity work can be very stressful, its one thing to do it for the same or slightly less money. But no one decent is going to take a major pay cut.

st jude's 16/17 revenue is $1.7billion. You want them to pay someone pennies to manage/raise that amount of money?

So the parents are possibly using their child and a charity to enrich themselves. Shocking, I tell you!

Exactly.

You know what charities spend 90+% of their revenues on their specific causes? The ones you've never heard of and can't find.

All that marketing and overhead helps drum up millions in support. This idea that cutting the overhead will keep the revenues the same is usually ridiculous. Don't me wrong, there are places that abuse their power, but it's not nearly as prevalent as others suggest. People are quick to criticize any major charity, but they've never got an alternative.

Like others, not extremely surprised something like this happened. It way to common in situations like this. It's really messed up.

Sort of random note, I met (or I guess saw) Jarrius in one of the most random places. One of my co-worker's truck broke down in Laplace, he was from out of state and one of the only places that said they could do repair in same day was in middle of no where St. James Parish. I drop him off but go inside and make sure the plan was till intact. Jarrius is behind the counter? He was back there hanging out with the receptionist, I noticed from the conversation, he seemed to be somewhat obnoxious and generally being rude, they clearly knew each other. I chalked it up to all that I am sure he has been through.

DEA says it is the lead agency in an active and ongoing federal investigation involving the “It Takes Lives to Save Lives Foundation” run by Jarrius Robertson’s father Jordy Robertson. @FOX8NOLA

I never would've guessed this kid is 16. I always thought it was younger than 10.

Not shocked he may be rude. He's treated like a god by organizations using him for good PR.

You probably should check your facts before spewing uneducated BS.
