I had a business dinner down there two weeks ago and the people who came from out of town were shocked at the homeless.

I was invited to a nice dinner down there next week, but politely declined for similar reasons. I'm honestly not sure how you can walk the crime back down there. I think legalization could cut out some of the turf wars as people wouldn't have to buy from criminals, but that would just leave the same criminals looking for different criminal opportunities, and robberies are always a favorite.

And of course, they blame it on “the guns”

These people aren’t rocket scientists. It’s amazing how Progs can have irrefutable facts in front of them and they still can’t see past their nose. That can’t be anything other than a mental/psychological defect.

This. They need to stop and frisk and keep bums and thugs off that street.

Its actually criminal of the current administration to allow intrusion into these areas with little to no push back.

Well it’s a criminal administration so…

We used to make at least one trip a year to New Orleans/French Quarter, but on our last trip we were within 50 feet of a guy who got shot and don’t plan to go back anytime soon.

My wife and I used to get 1 or 2x a year for the weekend to get away from kids and eat our favorite places. We haven’t been in 3 years for this reason. No reason to go to a place that you run back to your hotel room at first dark.

I haven't been to FQ since 2012 and it was pretty seedy then. If reports are true that it has gotten even worse, I intend to spend my tourist dollars in Savannah or Charleston.

and that was the early 90’s

Crime was a lot worse in the early 90s. Its bad now obviously, but in the early 90s the whole damn police department was corrupt. That's when it was known as the murder capital of the world.

If you gave me $2000 cash and a hotel room at the Four Seasons, and all I had to do was walk to Bourbon St and drink until midnight, I'd turn you down.

WDSU might be the latest to the party ever.

It was worse in the 90s but you were mostly safe in the FQ

Now, I’m not sure

80s and 90s were sketchy in Quarter. Lots of muggings.

Chocolate City is a moniker DC used to actually go by, but one it seemed to take pride in.

I guess

My grandpa was robbed on the bus in 1983 but that was over by city hall - and the channel was a mess back then - there were more cops and others trying to keep the peace in the quarter in the 80s/90s
