Washington, DC (CNN) - The US Food and Drug Administration announced it has approved the use of the first rapid diagnostic test that could detect coronavirus in approximately 45 minutes.

The authorization was made Friday and tests will begin shipping next week, according to a statement from California-based Cepheid, the company manufacturing the tests.

But the actual company is traded itself under CPHD

Worth noting that unlike previous testing, this requires proprietary everything.

Custom equipment and custom reagents, which the company is the sole provider.

There are approximately 30k diagnostic test units across the US

45 minutes is nothing

AYTU Biosciences is awaiting FDA emergency clearance for a test that takes 2-10 minutes to diagnose as neg or positive.

The catch? They've exclusively licensed the device from China. They're about to receive their first 100K kits in Denver early this week. I don't know if the Trump admin is too keen on approving a Chinese device at the moment.

But we'll see.

Ticker symbol AYTU trading at $1.48

50/50 shot at approval, maybe better since Trump has lax'd rigidity of FDA approvals recently.

They've done 3 offerings since initial news so they're either financing these kits or financing their wallets through these offerings. If so, the sec will have their way with them afterwards.

I take no responsibility in any financial decisions based on this post

I believe they've been delisted. Can't find any ticker info for them.

Canon's Medical Division is developing a Rapid Test systemThey previously did the same for Ebola and Zika. Those systems test and gave results almost instantaneously.

This is good news.

In other news, China announced that tests using the Fujifilm antiviral medication, Avigen, is proving effective at combating the Chinese virus in infected patients. In controlled tests, patients are recovering 30% faster.

What is it about Japanese camera makers that led them into medical? CAT scans?

Fujifilm stock rises on antiviral news

Lefties everywhere on Monday... wtf haven’t doctors and hospitals received this test yet? What are you doing to address the shortfalls in the number of testing kits? So we’ve had this test for 3 days, why is the Trump administration dropping the ball here? Are you even taking this virus serious?

Now that hydroxycloroquine is shortening the illness and infectious periods with stunning success rates, testing will be way less of a concern

Wrong. Wide scale testing would hello provide better data with which to make decisions. Additionally, cloroquine appears most effective when given early on, so wide spread testing would also assist in effective pharmaceutical treatments.

Is this in widespread use in the US? I thought Fauci said something along the lines of “don’t get your hopes up”. When did this become standard operating procedure?

No one should be trying to profit off discoveries like this. Not the company and not you vultures looking to buy stock in the company.

Are y'all trying to turn this into a capitalist economy or something ?

Bernie warned us about you people.

The focus on its production and distribution is definitely going to help.

But it’s not going to be the smoking gun you think it is going to be.

Just because you found out about it for the first time last week doesn’t mean it was breaking news that changes everything.

Hell, it was a topic of discussion on the thread on TD in January and February.

Medical papers on its efficacy against COV-19 were published first week of Feb.

Assuming it’s going to completely marginalize the cases would require an assumption it wasn’t previously being used at at least a moderate scale. Which is a rather silly assumption.

And yet only these French guys published with a small sample set?
