Wasn't that an IED tactic in Iraq? Set off a small bomb, draw in the first responders, then start the party when they show up?
Yes - they tried to target the IED disposal units - they analyzed our pattern of deployment and placed a secondary ring of explosives. We started watching them do that, though, in advance and killed them while they were doing it - OR we would just evacuate the area and use robots to detonate the initially discovered IED - without all the perimeter folks.
So, they adapt, we adapt. They adapt, we adapt. That's the nature of warfare.

Good question, I was stationed in twenty nine palms California and drove through San Bernardino regularly on the way to LA... Just a simple suburb.
Simple suburb, with a large building of lots of potential victims. But not a major city, thus no heavy amount of security? Sounds like a perfect target to me if I were a terrorist. Just saying....

It was always good watching the snipers turn someone's head into a pink mist and watching the rest scatter. Great deterrent for planting IEDs.

IF this is a terrorist attack (re: muslims), then this attack makes sense in light of Paris. I feel like their new strategy is not to hit "symbols" (WTC, Pentagon), but many smaller scale attacks in places that people just would not expect at all, in order to create increasing amounts of fear in normal people.

But please libs, remind us why we are supposed to want to take tens of thousands of unvetted "refugees" in again?
And how securing our border isn't important?
