So what kind of gun accounted for 30% of gun deaths that weren't handguns, shotguns, or rifles?
Firearm is a seperate category. A pistol grip shotgun is a "firearm" and is in a distinct legal category. Buying a Mossberg 500 with a pistol grip has different rules versus a Mossberg 500 with a standard stock. Even if the shotguns are packaged with the alternative grip/stock, whichever was put on it at the factory governs which category it is in.

The ones classified as "type not stated."
You know, the ones where in the statistic the FBI is compiling the type of gun is "not stated"?

Thankfully, the type of person that goes on shooting rampages isn't very common. However, people committing violent acts against lone individuals is pretty common. It's just a different mentality.
And it's the type of mentality that if you remove one type of tool to carry out their plan, they'll simply move on to another.
See: the Tsarnaev brothers.

sad that people like you exist, let's do nothing!! Yay!!
Pathetic.
"Let's pretend like we're doing something meaningful because we are doing something! At least we can feel self-important because we did something! Nevermind that it's the most superficial and meaningless thing we can possibly do because we're too fricking stupid or honest to address the real solution! WE MUST DO SOMETHING!!!1!!!!111!!!!!

And that’s exactly why liberals are legit fricking TARDS! They don’t understand anything about the problem but they have feelings and their sad so we MUST do something! Even though they have no idea WTF they are talking about. I wonder if it’s the parents fault for fricking up raising them or some kind of abuse they received from childhood that permanently fricked their brains.

The use of rifles is trending down;
The FBI further breaks down gun homicides by weapon type. Handguns have been consistently responsible for the majority of fatalities.
In 2016, there were 11,004 gun homicides (65% handguns, 6% rifle/shotgun, 30% other/unknown type)[83]
In 2014, there were 8,124 gun homicides (68% handguns, 6% rifle/shotgun, 25% other/unknown type).[11]
In 2010, there were 8,775 gun homicides (68% handguns, 8% rifle/shotgun, 23% other/unknown type).[14]
In 2001, there were 8,890 gun homicides (78% handguns, 10% rifle/shotguns, 12% other/unknown type).[84]
The Centers for Disease Control reports that there were 11,078 gun homicides in the U.S. in 2010.[13] This is higher than the FBI's count.[14]

How often are people killing people with rifles?
Being killed by a Nazi with a rifle is literally one of the least likely ways to die, and every idiot in America right now is terrified that it's going to happen to them because of media and political fear mongering.
We've become a nation of low IQ sheep.

Honestly, be thankful that shotguns weren't used in most school mass shootings, could have been much worse than they were.
No, no it wouldn't have been. Why some of you go this route is beyond me. The vast majority of shotguns can hold 5 shells. That limiting factor alone is why it wouldn't be worse.
ETA - I concur with the opinion that TT9 is an imbecile.

Hammers AND other blunt objects. I imagine more people are killed by baseball bats than rifles.

I doubt any single blunt object kills more than rifles.

These mass hammer killers should upgrade to a nail gun.

I know someone that is serving 2 life terms for killing two old people with a hammer.
May he rot in hell.

I’m pro-gun...
How many school children have been hammered to death in a mass hammercide?
How many malls have been shot up by auto-hammers?
What exactly is the point you are attempting to make?
