Probably the best investment/gift that my parents gave me was a set of World Book Encyclopedias. Spent countless hours reading these.

Obviously, this was way before the internet existed.

I'd like to help some less fortunate kids with some fun/educational toys, books, etc.

Looking for ideas.

Edit: oh, for kids. I’ve got nothing.

Legos or even Lincoln Logs. Just building shite helps more than you think.

Legos (just plain lots, not sets)
Erector set
Rivet set (I think it was called). Kind of like an Erector Set, but it used rubber grommets to bind the pieces together. It was recalled because the stupid kids were choking on the rivets.

There are ones that use magnets now, I think. They look pretty cool.

If you can get a kid to start reading actual books, it will pay off big time.

No matter the subject, most school and college classes come down to reading and reading comprehension.

It will make the kid smarter and he’ll have an easier time succeeding in anything he wants to do.

I had one of these as a kid but don't remember liking any educational toys. It gave you math problems and you had to type in the answer.
