Howard’s was Walmart before Walmart.

I worked at a Jitney Jungle grocery in my teen years. There was a Howard’s in the same shopping center.

Pre-1934 it was possible to mail order Thompson sub-machine guns from the Western Auto catalog.

Schewgmanns
A&P
Western Auto

Typical K&B run for my dad. A gallon of taaka or K&B vodka and a half gallon of ice cream for the kids.

My moms first job was in NOLA at K&B. She worked the deli counter. To this day she refers to the store as Katz and Besthoff.

Swegmanns had the absolute best French bread.

Kmart and the announcement of the blue light special

Some Kmarts also had a small cafeteria inside.

Howard Brothers and Howard Griffin used to confuse the hell out of me as a kid.

I really liked Service Merchandise.

I was a kid in the early 90’s nothing beat going to Champs Sports in Cortana.

From the Starter jackets, GOAT Nike shoes that are still in style 30 years later, to the unlimited selection of baseball caps, this was the first store I ran to.

Honorable mention to Sports Unlimited on Sherwood Forrest.

My mother confirmed it was Howard Griffin.

Fun fact, Willie Robertson's wife is HG's granddaughter.
somehow my mother knew that also.
