Grew up in the Westminister area of Baton Rouge. Spent lots of time in the Drusilla TG&Y as a kid.

Wilson's was much better before they were bought out by Service Merchandise. It went to shite after that.

Can't remember the name of it now for the life of me. I just remember they had Breyer horses that I collected.
eta kern's was in that weird area behind the library of 18th street on the same road dr. flynn the eye doctor was on.

"Guitars, drums, pianos, organs... Everything musical at Werleins."
Toy Center at Washington and Jeff Davis in New Orleans. I was always looking for the red and white striped wrapping paper under the tree on Christmas morning.

brookshire's did 'S&H'
Big Star/Dixie Dany did "Quality Stamps"
My brother and I filled about 20 of those books up..you could 'fill' a page with a single 50-stamp or 50 1-stamps

This was the greatest place to n earth when we were kids, train sets running all around the showroom, Santa Claus walking around talking to everyone, they even had a boat launch behind the store and you could test drive boats in the river. Motorcycles, go karts all in one place.

IIRC their staff made commissions on sales, so most of them knew their products well and were quite helpful. I preferred giving them my business over Best Buy.
Same here. I really miss them for all my electronic needs.

When I was a kid in the 70s, our mall had a Woolworth's that still had the lunch counter and soda fountain. That's the only time that I've had an ice cream soda but it was amazing.
I have a feeling that their food was pretty good too. I've always heard that Howard Johnsons used to have really good food. That's another building that I miss seeing. Those Orange A Frames were pretty memorable and it seemed like every town had one.

the God's Honest Truth right here. The 'day after christmas' half price sale was the GOAT! you'd have to park way down the road by the penn hotel. no parking spaces anywhere near HG.
my christmas was defined by 'grandmother's house' on christmas eve presents..christmas day at home..and every cent from the checks or cash i got was spent the day after christmas at howard griffin.

When I was in college, I worked for both Service Merchandise and K-Mart. Service Merchandise and a dumb frickin' way of shopping.

I can't say that I miss Blockbuster because I live in the only town that still has one. You get the Blockbuster vibe and smell as soon as you walk through the door.

I'm thinking it had to be Howard Griffin but for some reason that doesn't sound right in my mind.

K&B Drugstore.
Used to ride my bike there and get my comics from there. Plus the AC was always kicking and was a nice relief from the Louisiana heat.

howard brothers had a giant barn in back they turned into a toy store for christmas.
i cant think of any other toy places..do you remember where it was?

It may have been Eastgate.
Back then we would only go to Monroe a couple of times a year.
These days it's not uncommon for us to go once a month. Only a little over an hour away which makes it an easy shopping destination.
I texted my mom.... maybe she will remember.

Always got hyped when we had to go to KB, only to find out it was the pharmacy, not the toy store.

Service Merchandise and a dumb frickin' way of shopping.

didnt you have to write down what you wanted on a 'golf sheet' and bring it to the front cashier and they would ring you up then you'd wait.....wait......wait......wait...for them to go find it and bring it to you? yeah that was a mess.
