Science museum.

One of my favorites was going to an industrial-sized bread bakery. The fact that all the different breads you see in the grocery store were all made in the same place just blew my 9-year-old mind

We went to a potato chip factory, only one I remember.

My granddaughter gets to go skiing, and on ferry trips for hers.

I’ve posted about it before but I remember in detail going to the old print district that used to exist near the FQ back in the early 70’s when there were a lot of “alternative” newspapers (hippie and alternative religion stuff).

The area was infested with literal old school winos sleeping, peeing, crapping, having sex, puking in every alley and all along the sidewalks.

Came home with a handful of flyers and a clear understanding of how the human excrement exists on the streets.

A private kindergarden; we walked to the chick hatchery and watched trays of eggs hatch, with that tooth at the end of the beak breaking out.
Girl scouts took a trip to Washington Navy Yard and we got to walk through a real, still active submarine.
Our Latin class took a trip to Williamsburg (because the teacher liked Williamsburg and so did we).

Yogi Bear campground waterside. Hit puberty and saw girls in bikinis who looked like 18 year olds.

Candy factory. Were making those striped peanut butter candies similar in texture to butterfinger.
Also the local dam. Got to walk into the tunnel at the base where they check for leaks, (maybe??)

4 days in Wilmington and D.C.

Other than that...The Lost Sea and Mammoth Cave were both pretty awesome.

As a BR alumni for the past 50+ years. I went to the King Tut in NOLA, some bread bakery by a RR track, and a Krispy Crème on Plank. 4th to 5th grade. IIRC.

I had two field trips to Bunny Bread. Gave us a loaf of bread

Best field trip as a kid. It seems like we did that every year. The reason it was the best was because at the end you’re not only got a loaf of bread, you got a loaf of bread right off the conveyor belt. It was nice hot/warm loaf that melted in your mouth. Even as a kid, I could eat a whole loaf of that stuff it tasted so good.

I also remember going to the King Tut exhibit out at the New Orleans Museum in City Park. That was a huge extravaganza. They painted the two roads leading in blue to make them appear like the River Nile.

As far as educational, a field trip to Cabildo was pretty cool. It was nice to see exactly where they signed the Louisiana purchase.

We also got to go out the Audubon Park Zoo. they used to have these little boxes in front of all the exhibits. If you had a red "Elephant Key" you could put it in and the box would tell you all about the animal in that enclosure.

Finally, I remember going to see The Ten Commandments at either the Joy or the Lowes State Theater on Canal Street. And, yes, I went to Catholic school. It was pretty cool seeing The Ten Commandments on the big screen at that age.

I’ve never talked about this but maybe Halloween is the time to unburden myself. I have only one memorable field trip. It was in high school and i remember not really knowing where we were going, just that it was a chance to get out of social studies class. On the way, the bus stopped at a gas station so some of us could use the restroom. Myself and a few other kids got the bright idea to buy some of those Mini Thins that they sold at the counter to get high. You know, the ones that are illegal now.

We got to the place and it became clear that it was a home/facility for adults with severe developmental disabilities. Just as we got in, the pills took effect. As we walked through what seemed like a labyrinth, we saw people with all kinds of horrible disfigurements and behaviors. Really tragic disabilities. They just walked us through the whole place.

The others and I looked at each other and it was clear we were all trying to keep our shite together. We were in no shape to process seeing these poor souls. One guy looked like he wasn’t succeeding but he held on. When we left, none of us spoke a word to each other. We didn’t speak at all for the whole rest of the day and never spoke of it again.
