Rodney Dangerfield at Louisiana Downs. 1981/82. Dude had me laughing just walking out to perform. Greatest of all time.

I'm sure it will be unpopular, but Jerry Seinfeld was really, really good. He's got such great timing and delivery and his observational comedy is spot on.

Really really liked Ron White too.

Lewis Black

He opened his 2019 tour in Huntsville, AL and I saw him for the second show. He is friends with the people who own that club, and chose it instead of doing an arena type show. He had like six shows there over 4 or 5 days. Lewis is one of my favorites, and he never gets mentioned in any of the OT best comedians threads. He's a great writer who is able to "get political" without really alienating either side of the aisle. He's a smart guy, too, so that helps.

His "The Rant is Due" segment at the end of every live show was groundbreaking in standup comedy. He carries a film crew with him just for a 20-30 minute segment at the end of each show that is live streamed on his website for people who join his fanclub thing.

having a podcast that grosses you about half a million a year will certainly open some doors

I understand that. I just don't agree with club promoters giving them headlining gigs when they know good and well that their standup isn't good, and in some cases it is just terrible.

Why would that be unpopular? He is known as a great clean comic.

I saw him years ago and he was great. I had never seen a single episode of his show but he didnt make any jokes dealing with the show besides a reference or two

Saw a comedian in Vegas named John Mendoza. The guy was hilarious. Also saw Rita Rudner in Vegas as well. She was surprisingly funny.

Most professional comics command and audience and are funnier live than on a show. Seinfeld I found f**king hilarious, Fluffy too (Seinfeld’s disgust for everyday life and Gabriel’s sound effects work much better live).

Regan and Tosh were also good live. Only one I really didn’t get into was Gaffigan - I found it too distracting when he drops into the under-the-breath “audience voice” and stays there for just a little too long.

Chris Tucker and Hannibal Buress at the same show were good too.
