About a third of private sector hiring decisions are made based on things unrelated to qualifications. That has to be closer to 90% for public sector appointments.

I really really want an investigation into how this guy got his security clearance. I went through hell on my national security polygraph regarding the box of pencils I stole from Middleton Library. They were in an unlocked supply closet and I was poor and needed them for a class.
They raked me over the coals about it and they almost didn't get the clearance.

I remeber long ago having to show my boarding pass to someone to prove the bag was mine. No one checks anymore unless international because of customs.

I mean, the dude already has two arrests for doing exactly what is alleged in the article and had to step down because of it. This ain't exactly a giant leap.
It is a win/win, though, because this guy is no longer in charge of disposal of nuclear waste. A few stolen outfits is a small price to pay.
