You might want to read that again

The family is seeking damages in excess of $50,000, "exclusive of interest, costs, and attorney’s fees."

Is this the same incident I’m thinking of that went viral awhile back with the Baton Rouge kid?

No he was white and from Baton Rouge so the OT cared about that one unlike this one

He was 20, not a kid. I'm sure the bad parenting is there, but they are acting like it was some 5 year old roaming the deck during 30' seas.

Imagine going through life demanding everyone care about you solely on race...

More in the article

quote:

An attorney for Enoch Tong's family alleged in a press conference Wednesday that the yacht crew did not warn the victim of the risk of jumping into the water

Apparently common sense wasn't enough.

quote:

While docked in the bay, Tong, 20, jumped off the boat “when he was caught in a rip tide and began to struggle to remain afloat," according to the complaint, which also alleged that "as a direct and proximate result," Tong "drowned and sustained severe injuries resulting in his death on March 19, 2023."

Wow, so the boat wasn't even at sea. It was stationary and docked.

They are looking for an easy payday, aka the insurance company to pay the limits. Vultures.

Doesnt matter, Maritime Law is different. I'm not saying this guy is protected by the Jones Act bc he wasnt an employee, but there are other laws and protections for passengers, third party contractors and such when they are on the water whether the boat is moored or in transit.....

The insurance company will absolutly pay

No, the difference has nothing to do with race. While both situations are sad; one isn’t suing because their family member made a dumb decision.

If the BR family was to sue the yachting company, I’d be critical of them too

No, there aren’t.

The company is held to same negligence standards as if he was on land. Other than regulations about life vests and things like that.

You can sue anyone for anything.

Doesn't mean you'll win.

(they probably won't win).

Click bait.

So, another case of let's find someone to blame because my child was a dumbass and got himself killed.

Seems the list of people who don't want to take responsibility for their own actions or the actions of their kids gets longer and longer every day.

When people sue, the LAWYER goes after EVERY entity they can find who has money. It doesn't mean they are bad, but this type law suit has the attorney who might sue Florida for having rip tides. And probably Florida didn't teach him to swim first.

Seeing everything through the prism of skin color and race, is racism, isn't it?
