be much better off letting criminals go free though right?
Are we considering people who neglect to pay parking fines criminals now? I missed that scared-little-persons-anonymous meeting.

Don't some places do weekend jail? Intermmitant sentences? That way if he comes up with the money he can get out sooner.
Though that would mean less time in jail, and equally less $$$ for the state.

Not having the money to pay the $772 fine, a judge ordered him to jail for 30 days.
He cannot pay the state $772, so let's prevent him from working and house him in a state-funded enterprise that will COST the state $300 per day.
Makes sense.

This has been answered multiple times in this thread.
I saw it said a doctor prescribed him these meds, but that not at the jail. I was asking was the jail staff notified that he was on these meds

Just a low life dope head causing the tax payer money. He got what was coming.

Probably revoking his license. It's a freaking ticket.
Should we be imprisoning people to make society better or worse? We've created a whole institutionalized underclass.

What do you think happens in China and Russia if you don't pay a fine?
So, we're basing our expectations here on what goes on in Chinese and Russian jails now?

But as I have asked before, was his medical condition known to the staff at the jail. Did his family come up there with medication and prescription in hand and the staff just flat refuse to give him his meds, or was there a break down in communication and the staff was never aware of his prescriptions.
But I do agree at some point the staff HAS TO take it upon themselves to see if this individual needs medical attention.
I didn't see anything in the article one way or the other about communication between the guy's family and the jail about his prescriptions. I'd imagine his parents told them due to the serious nature of his medications. But that's just speculation on my part.
But what the article does state is that a jail nurse evaluated him and recommended he be put into detox which the jail neglected to do. Instead they put him in a "high-observation cell" where he'd be under constant observation. To me this is even more damning because it means they could clearly see the man was in trouble. They could see his suffering hallucinations and going into convulsions. Hell, the report even states the guy lost like 50 pounds in just 11 days. He lay on the floor convulsing for TWO DAYS before they got him medical help. His death is the sole responsibility of the people at that jail and they should be charged with his death due to their gross and even cruel negligence.

what should we call them? pieces of shite, scum, deadbeats?
what if he wasn't paying child support, taxes, etc...what consequences should a person face if they don't pay what they owe?

None of you watched the video did you? He died from withdrawal from Methadone, Klonipin and Xanax. He wasn't on drugs anymore, he was prescribed by a doctor these prescription medications. He was not placed in detox, and was placed in a regular jail cell instead without his medications. Once off his meds for 6 days, he became erratic (as most anyone who is on those drugs and suddenly off) would be.
Then he spent 11 more days in a psych ward on suicide watch (still not given his meds), where his appetite became suppressed, he has noticeable seizures, and ultimately died from failure to thrive due to withdrawal from his medications. He was neglected, ignored, and written off to die. He lost 50 pounds from his incarceration date.
He did not die from withdrawal to heroin. He died from withdrawal of the medications prescribed to him. Because of error in the legal system.
I sincerely hope no one here is on a prescription beta blocker, CCB, potassium, or sodium channel blocker and gets sent to prison. You'll likely die in 30 days as well. It's exactly the same thing. If you're prescribed by a doctor to take a medication and have been taking a medication, suddenly not having that medication will KILL you.
You're all animals for suggesting he deserved this. It honestly makes me sick thinking about how none of you have compassion for people suffering from varied conditions and cannot see through a troubled past.
So all of you can go frick yourselves who said he deserved this.
