I would talk to your wife about how you feel. If I truly felt I needed to be there there is no way my wife would say no. Do what you can to move your vacation around the dates.

Whats more important, your friends grief and anguish or going somewhere so you can gloat about it on Facebook?

And we are talking about a 3 day trip to the beach? Not some great once in a lifetime trip?

Florida isn’t going anywhere.

Your friendship might though.

I am trying to do both somehow.

The complication is we are staying in 2 spots. St Joe and then apolachacola. Which limits airports and she would need a car to take the dogs and change places while I fly to Atlanta and back.

I am coming to realize there isn’t a solution to this.

I would call your friend, explain to him. Send something to the funeral and go visit with friend when you get back.

Where at in Florida, depending on where, you totally could just bite the bullet and make the drive up and back in a single day unless you are in south florida.

Exactly what I was just looking at. Would be 600 bucks but could be the best answer to this situation.

Def the way to go. Your bud will be happy you put in that effort for his pops, you will feel good about what you did, and will give the wife a day to chill and get a massage or something that you wouldn’t want to do anyway.

How expensive can a 3 day non refundable vacation be?

But. It really all depends on your relationship with your friend.

My wife, 2 kids and I had a non refundable vacation and didn’t have any travel insurance. My mother in law was on her deathbed and passed away the day we were supposed to leave. I called the company and told them the day before we were to leave that we wouldn’t make it and didn’t expect a refund. I asked for points the points because we cruised with this line often. They wouldn’t give me the reward points even though we cruised with them every year (Norwegian)

I called back n Monday during regular business hours and talked to a rep. I told her I just wanted my points but understood not getting my money back. She said no to the points but gave me a credit and my wife one and with the refund on port fees, came within a couple hundred bucks of the full price of the cruise.

tldr:check on credit even if it’s a non refundable vacation.

And this was a 7 day, 4 people, balcony cruise. It was a descent amount of money.
