Same here. Except I'm just worried about my kids. My wife will remarry or at the least get a boyfriend. I'm gonna do my best to not leave anything but a house for her.

That way you have someone to be miserable with. And split Ubers.

Hey butchybaby, in context of this thread, I was suprised at the age of our posting population on the OT. No offense intended. I post pretty blindly, don't keep up with anything personal, but you saying 66 (the famous Route is calling your name ) and hearing about fishfighter's ailments bring it home more than the family I don't talk to...
lizzie darlin', there are many days I wish I had my 60 year old body back...but it is what it is, my PSA is next to nothing and I know I'm not going to end up like my father...
as far as work is concerned, I'm on a 3-5 year glide path out of full time work, there have been some recent developments which could set me up beautifully to stay engaged and make a contribution until I finally want to totally hand it up

Last year in August on the golf course in Hammond with my dad (78 yrs. old).
It was hot as hell, and my dad made a terrible shot. He made a comment about being dizzy, and said he had to sit down. I helped him to the cart and he was about passed out. Drove like a maniac back to the clubhouse, one hand on the wheel and another holding him in the cart. Got him inside the air-conditioned clubhouse and got a Gatorade in him; he came through.
That scared me more than his bypass surgeries; maybe because I was alone, maybe because this was in his realm (a golf course, where he is at least once a week and a place where I have never bested him), maybe because while he was like that I felt fine.
All I know is that I really saw my dad as an old man then, and it made ME feel old.

I'm 29 and have started having these feels hit me.
I've got a kid on the way, and my aging grandparents are all in pretty poor health. My grandparents were an integral part of my youth, and as a result I'm as close to them as my own parents. Prior to my wife being pregnant, seeing them get into their late 70s and 80s and their declining health didn't really make me think too much.. but now I am forced to stop and think about the fact that my child will not have much time on Earth with them, and its a tough pill to swallow. Gotta cherish all of my remaining time with them.

I started to feel it in 2012 when my grandmother died. She was my last living grandparent (both of my father's parents died before I was 6) so when she left...it saddened me to realize I now have no grandparents around.
I really felt it right after BR flood. Made me realize just how old my father was getting. I hadn't seen him in 2 years prior to then and he had seemed to age so much in those 2 years.
He'll be 70 next month. With his mental and health issues...he just looks like a scared old man. Makes me sad to realize I'll never have what I consider "my real dad" back. That likely his remaining years on this Earth..he is gonna be pretty much like he is now(maybe a tad bit better)...or worse.

I’m pretty sure you’re embellishing. I don’t know a single parent who would trade their kids to “jet off to Europe”. Everyone makes choices. You made a choice. I made a choice to have a child. We all live with our choices but yours isn’t better. It’s only better for you.

But there are some of us here.

My dad dying in 2011 and three grandparents dying in 2013 forever changed me. My extended family unit became shattered as a result.

It was in August 1997 after I had spent 3 hospitalizations in the Washington Hospital Center and then was transferred to Georgetown. The admitting hematologist/oncologist asked me how old I was. I said that I would be 46 next month. He replied, "I don't think so." Rather than telling him to go frick himself, I simply said, "Nice bedside manner."
I suppose I could (and perhaps should) have died. I am a medical miracle. I’m one of two people in the world who survived my allergic reaction to a drug called Ticlid. 21 years later I am still walking the earth.
I've seen my Dad pass in 2003 and now my siblings and I are dealing with what to for Mom since her fall in church in April. By the end of this month her Medicare benefits end. We'd like her to move north, but she's fairly adamant about staying in "God's Waiting Room", i.e. Florida. Fortunately, Dad provided well for her. I know I couldn't afford to stay in a 13k per month place.
The bottom line is, all we have is today. No guarantee of tomorrow so, as Warren Zevon said, "Enjoy every sandwich."

Yeah this happened after my grandmother died. She was the glue that held the family together. Before she died...they would all try to get together on holidays for her. After she died..that stopped. Everyone mostly does their own thing now.

Dude that’s no good
I think for me it was around a six month time period, my grandpa passed, I got discharged, wife had a miscarriage during the week of Christmas.
My dad passed away 3 weeks later
Now I don’t feel it quite as much; my 2 year old little girl has rejeuvenated me.

I relate hard to this. held my grandmothers' hand as she died and I was 13. ( the last thing i said to her in the ICU was updating her that the Braves had won the previous day, she was thrilled at this news , and I can't watch a braves game even now, 15 years later without thinking of her)
this shook me hard.
I have a hard time getting close to many people, few friends and i really have my parents left, i'm not close with my cousins either, for fear of getting my heart and spirit crushed again.
I know it's not a good way to live but it just feels easier that way.
