This story doesn’t check out at all. Ol baw is covering some tracks here. I’d believe the Rolex part, but the stock stuff is way too high level for our average criminal here.

My employer here in Kentucky wanted me and 5 others to go to a conference in Nola next month. I refused, since I'm from Nola I follow current events. When they were surprised I refused, I explained the crime wave (and covid restrictions) issues were really bad. They ended up cancelling all 6 reservations.

How are they showing up in the same type of vehicle that the app reported? That was stated twice in the article at least. Seems like an odd coincidence.

Probbly work at a car rental agency.
And tweedy probably getting a cut.

The city should force Uber drivers to better brand their cars too.

Vendor shaming? (Like victim shaming?)

Or, you know, NOPD and the DA could do their jobs arresting and prosecuting these imposters. We know that won’t happen and we know why.

Why should the company or the drivers have to spend more money and effort because NOPD is a derelict organization and the DA a subversive?

In New Orleans to visit friends from college, the Houston man left Pat O’Brien's bar on Jan. 2 at about 3 a.m. and hailed a ride via a phone app. Two women driving a car that appeared to be the same make and model as the one shown on the app pulled up. He got in.

He doesn’t remember what happened next.

“I didn’t confirm the license plate,” he said. “I got in and kind of went black from there.”

Are the dude that was alerted and went to the ATM and offered money to we robbers? How are we not talking about this pussy?

When the car pulled over at the drug store, I would have just screamed at friends to run and hauled arse. This dude takes money from the ATM and gets back in the car. What the hell is that about?

Wuts dis means??

As to the OP...I'm sure others mention it, but definitely sounds like a PSA to not use face/fingerprint options to unlock phones. Also, no password mgrs. I got to send this article off to some peeps that call me out for not going all in on these types of features. The same type that say they have nothing to hide so doesn't matter how much data companies/govt gets.

It also does make me wonder how these women know when to roll up. Do they have a hack they are taking advantage so they know when they can roll up in their similar car? One thing is a random hopping in, but sounds like they know when to roll up to try to trick people. If there is a hack then Uber/Lyft should be held responsible as they have to know about it so they should be telling people this. And also should find a way to clean up their security.

Isn’t it an uber driving policy that the driver must be alone? I’d definitely be sketched out if my uber had a passenger in front

I think the only way to clean up crime is if there was some type of group that worked outside the law, that had a lot of money backing them so they are able to buy high quality protective gear, weapons. Have a phase one where they do their own investigating. They would ride around and stake out areas looking for people who are stealing cars, robbing people, etc.

The mafia used to take care of this.

I’m not ubering. I will go anywhere nearby within walking distance and be back at hotel before 1 am.

Nothing wrong with your strategy, but ride shares are perfectly safe if you verify your driver, which is easy todo.I doit every time I use Uber of Lyft. You just walk behind the vehicle and check the license plate.
