Married couple discusses cat food despite not having cats.

Receives ads for cat food on their Facebook pages.

I wonder how many ads Facebook sent me for screaming “God fricking damnit Gus you fricking suck” a few weeks ago.

This is not surprising.

ETA I don’t mean that like “you’re posting something stupid”. I mean that having an Amazon Echo in my house made me finally realize something is always listening. I now realize that this extends to my phone. It’s creepy, but inevitable. I can only hope other people are deflecting the attention by having more interesting conversations.

They have a task force that goes around looking for people buying drugs. Don't discuss drug deals on Facebook. That was like the only thing I used Facebook for

FB probably does eavesdrop but that doesn't prove anything. There could just be a script that calls up ads with words that appear on the page. Kind of like TD - there have been many times I saw a banner ad that matched the thread.

Plus their spying isn't that good. They think I'm a cornball brutha living in Pennsylvania. I never claimed any of that.

Its worse than that.

It was an iPhone. iOS takes giving apps permissions pretty seriously, and microphone isn't even an request of the app. So unless FB trumped the FBI and hacked all phones everywhere and sidestepped getting permission from the OS to get access, there is literally no way for FB to listen to the conversation.

Furthermore, I find it hard to believe they have had ZERO interaction with cats. Considering the earlier comment about the stupid wife and it being her phone.....I can't discount her watching a video, in the FB app, of a shared cat video from one of her friends. But oh yes, conspiracy.

Its hilarious. I have no doubt we are being tracked, and massive amounts of info is being permanently stored on us.

But people keep pointing fingers at the wrong things.

Amazon for sure listens, but wouldn't doubt Facebook does too.

Quit Facebook.

It’s the best thing. I don’t miss it one bit. Quit 3 or 4 years ago.

Too long didn't watch...

Facebook listens to your internet searches. Everything you give permission to share with Facebook has your info, your clicks, your likes on Facebook. Video proves nothing.

That means we are all going to be bombarded with testicle donation ads tomorrow.

I have suspected this for a while. I have noticed a few times receiving ads for products that I only talked about around my phone and did not do any search for on any of my devices. It could just be coincidence, but nothing would surprise me.

This isn't new at all. Ads use the mic on your laptop and phone to listen in and show you things they think you're interested in.

A buddy’s wife works for an investigation firm and her entire job is trolling Facebook looking for people that have filed personal injury suits but have lied about being injured. It is stunning how much shite people out in social media.

Can you imagine if Facebook decided to start selling your “private” conversations to law firms and police.
