Even if you give them access to your microphone, it is suspended after 30 seconds of the app going into the background. The OS restricts access unless the app specifically requests access in it's UIBackgroundModes key, which Facebook 100% does not do. It is not a recommendation, it's a restriction by the operating system.

I've had this happen. Said something about a certain type of sound mixer and I got an ad for it on fb. Thing is I've never said those words before nor am I into sound mixing. Never searched for such a thing either on any device. Pretty freaky.

I remember watching that TV show "Person of Interest" and wondering how many years it would take for that type of AI to be feasible.
I realize now, I should have been thinking more in terms of months.
The NSA no longer needs to spy on people. It only needs to spy on Facebook, Google, Apple, and Amazon.

Google has been doing it on Android phones for several years.
My personal example 3 years ago happened when watching a Netflix movie. I Googled to see what movies the actor was in and it autofilled the motherfricker for me with his name. I said out loud "what in the frick just happened?"

Several years ago I started studying the concept of information inflation. I think that's the best way to fight this shite. Mix in some misdirection, all in some automated fashion.

My GF and I were talking about what kind of engagement ring she was going to want yesterday and later that day ads for vintage engagement rings started showing up on my phone. We've settled on a 1920s ring that's actually much less than I figured I would spend.

The other day, me and my wife were talking about extinct animals and she brought up an obscure one. She went to Google something and the animals name was came up.
Scary. We've since tested it and confirm Google is always listening.

This is certainly true. My wife and I were discussing my oldest daughter and how she might need a probiotic and an hour later she got suggested ads for them, never searched anything manually before.
