Texas A&M University President Michael K. Young sent an email to the university Monday outlining what issues President Trump's immigration ban is having on students and staff. Here is the email:

Texas A&M University for decades has welcomed students, faculty and staff from countries around the globe. This is a core tenet of who we are and has enhanced our academic excellence immeasurably. The recent news of a travel ban issued by the White House regarding seven countries – Iraq, Iran, Sudan, Syria, Libya, Somalia, and Yemen - has understandably ignited concerns within our university community.

All Texas A&M students, faculty and staff from these (and other countries, for that matter) are here permissibly. We have, over the weekend and continue to do so today, reached out to those we know to be affected. Attorneys within the Texas A&M System are assisting us in identifying helpful resources that can be made available to those affected. Until we know more information, we advise that students, faculty and staff from the countries named remain in the United States until the completion of their programs or until they plan to move to their home country permanently. We will continue to monitor the situation. For any students, faculty and/or staff who may be delayed in travel to the U.S. because of the current situation, we will work with them to ensure that they may continue their work remotely uninterrupted. We are also working with our congressional delegation for assistance so that everyone affected by this order can continue their work without disruption or delay. Students in need of immediate assistance should contact Bill Taylor, Director of the Office of International Student Services for Texas A&M, at wjtaylor@tamu.edu.

Faculty and staff in need of immediate assistance should contact Mario Rojo del Busto, Director of the Office of Immigration Services for Faculty and Scholars at mrbusto@tamu.edu. Finally, and most importantly, we are Aggies united—inclusive of nationality, cultural identity, age, gender identity or expression, physical ability, political ideology, racial and ethnic identity, religious and spiritual identity, sexual orientation, and social and economic status—so please respect each other, stay informed, and support each other as Aggies do!

Sincerely, Michael K. Young President

i don't understand why LSU supporters or alumni are the only people bitching about their president addressing the issue

President Daniels issues statement, guidance regarding executive order on immigration
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue University President Mitch Daniels on Sunday (Jan. 29) issued the following statement regarding the Executive Order issued Friday (Jan. 27) by President Donald Trump: “The President's order related to immigration is a bad idea, poorly implemented, and I hope that he will promptly revoke and rethink it. If the idea is to strengthen the protection of Americans against terrorism, there are many far better ways to achieve it.” Around 100 of Purdue’s 40,000 students are from the countries named in this week’s executive order from the White House and hold non-immigrant visas. Another 10 faculty are citizens of those countries.

Currently, the university is not aware of any of its students, staff or faculty who have been left stranded outside the United States, however, the university remains concerned for them and their families as the result of this order. The university cautions students, staff and faculty who appear to be affected by the executive order not to leave the United States until the Departments of State and Homeland Security issue new guidelines. In addition, those who have concerns about the impact of the order may contact the Office of International Students and Scholars (iss@purdue.edu or 765-494-5770) or the Office of the Dean of Students for advice and support.

What does this have to do with his note of this thread?

that the people bitching about King's email are just as whiny and sensitive as the snowflakes they love to complain about.

At Texas A&M University, 170 students enrolled in fall 2016 were from Iran, of 220 students from the seven banned countries. The university said it was not aware of any students who were out of the U.S. when the order was signed.

More than 900 people indicated they would attend an on-campus rally to support Muslim students on Monday evening, including students driving in from Sam Houston State University and UT, said organizer Mallory Chapman, a 19-year-old A&M freshman from Arlington.

Texas A&M University President Michael Young said in a statement that students should respect one another and stay informed. "We are also working with our congressional delegation for assistance so that everyone affected by this order can continue their work without disruption or delay," he said.

i doubt anyone at A&M was affected either but as I said before, college SJWs will rally for anything and the only thing you can do is try to prevent it with a preemptive email

People are bitching about King overall. He has clearly taken a stance that many dont agree with and his priority is not LSU. Its political positioning, end of story.

which is exactly what i said on the first page in the 11th post in the thread.

The title of the post is "F. King weighs on the immigration debate" but it should just be named "frick F. King" because what he actually did is send a standard email as almost every other university president did about this issue.

when people are outraged by every single thing someone does it takes away from when they actually do some dumb shite worth getting outraged over.

kind of like Liberals being outraged about something new every single day of Trumps presidency, its hard to take them seriously when they act like every single thing he does is the end of America.

I would like to know the number of the people who could possibly be affected by this.

I'll set the over under at 10 and take the under.

How many students and employees for those 7 countries are out of the country right now in the middle of the semester and will need to get back in?

What's the problem here?

I'm sure LSU has quite a few foreign students who are concerned about the status of their visas right now. Why shouldn't the president of the university reach out to them?

I know UNO Engineering has a large quantity of students from the ME. Moreso than any other region except central and south America. Probably 2/3rds of my peers speak two languages fluently

Just take a look at the opening statement of the email.

quote:

Last week’s Presidential Executive Order affecting the ability of individuals from certain nations to enter the United States has caused significant alarm within the higher education community.

Now compare the full email with what aTm sent out. How many times did F. King specifically mention ways for members of the LSU community that are affected to get help from the university? aTm reached out to potentially affected people and listed 2 email addresses, one for students and one for faculty, on who to contact. UNO also listed info for affected students. If you were from one of those 7 countries, which email would you rather read, and which would comfort you most?
