I was out to sea on a carrier one time, me and a buddy were out on the smoking sponson during the end of cruise airshow. Tomcat came in low and fast, level with the hangar deck we were on, and broke the sound barrier right as he passed us, maybe 50 feet off the port side. The sonic boom basically blasted everyone that was out there, it was awesome. Definitely will wake you up a little bit.

I was serving when they went to that shitty "Ghost Gray" scheme. The Navy went from having the most beautiful paint schemes in the US military to looking like a collection of corroding junk. Paint 'em bright and dare the enemy to do something about it.

I remember the intercept jets from Belle Chasse buzzing us on the beach at Timbalier Island when we were kids. They would be on top of us low,low before we knew it. I would almost crap on myself.
One pilot (Landry ) would gun run his uncles camp at Pelican Lake and stand it straight up over the camp.
We would also watch Bill and Corky Fornof dousing acrobats over Lake Theriot. Mr Bill had a P-51 that was painted a popular at the time Cadillac Gold. He was a Cadillac Dealer.

I never saw the video either. But I grew up oogleing over that print in your parents house as well as the one in Baggy's prop shop. I've heard the story 20+ times while fishing on your dad's boat and it never gets old. My family owns the sister Whaler 21 that was the camera platform for the event in the ponds off of Bayou Grand Calliou.

It was tough to keep those colors looking good with rattle can. Many came back after 6-9 months deployment looking kinda rough. Corrosion gave us fits and you never seemed to keep ahead of it. We knew the decision was coming long before they put it on paper.
