I just don’t understand the desire to tear shite down. If something has been part of the landscape for a century, then I really don’t care what/who it “endorses.” It’s a piece of history, and obviously the voters of the time weren’t bothered by it when it was erected, so who am I to judge their decisions of their time in my current time?

Not a government funded memorial. Not the government's business.
I am as big of a proponent of separation of church and state there is, but this was built using private funds.

The monument won't be torn down, it would likely be moved private property near its original location. No one would be taking a wrecking ball to it. Would the meaning of it change if it was moved private property?

3 fricking residents are butthurt over this, so they wanna tear it down? How about a city vote if they feel that way.....not take shite like this to the SCOTUS.
People are rediculous and will do anything for attention. If the court doesn’t overturn the appeals court, our country is fricked faster then I thought possible

Religious symbols that have achieved non-religious meaning over time should be left alone.
Any reasonable person agrees with this.

I'm sure the folks at the Humanist association will do the work of chiseling all the crosses of the stones. Of course the star and crescents and stars of David will be left alone

Arlington shows no preference to any one religion. Many symbols from almost every religion exist for a family to choose from. Separation of church and state is about showing preference to one religion.

This will be overturned. Kavanaugh insures it.

Speaking as a progressive and atheist, the person, or people, that brought this case are fricking idiots. There are a myriad of situations where religion leaks into politics and governance which are worth going after...a memorial cross is not one of those situations.

The state did not pay nor construct the monument. Therefore, there is no constitutional violation. Just whining by regressives who don't understand the constitution.
That’s what I am trying to figure out: Where is the state in this? If it’s on government land in in Arlington I can get it though.

BTW, it appears the precise state/religion connection being used is that public funds maintain it.
This item that’s on the Historic Landmark registry as well.

Slippery slope of lost cause and civil war memorials.

Government and religion shouldn’t mix.
Government was never supposed to be a-religious, or devoid of any. It is not allowed to establish a state or preferred religion...or prohibit the free exercise thereof.
There is no such thing as freedom from religion. Find something better to do than bitch about stuff like this.
In b4 "bible thumper." I don't do church.
