I used to be anti-vest because I too could not comprehend the point. I had a golf one given to me and it makes all the sense in the world now. It's perfect for a morning tee time in the winter. Put it on over the qzip when it's in the 40s for the first few holes. Take it off as the temps rise. Then, you could take off the qzip and put the vest on over the golf shirt to finish.

This time of year I like one on days where you don't really need a jacket but a little protection and I appreciate a pocket for keys/phone.

I live in a place it hasnt gotten above freezing since Monday.
So being able to shed layers when you go inside is clutch. You get an extra core layer, but have the arms ready to fit in your heavy jacket. Versatile piece of clothing.
