great for the 40s and 50s weather. If active at all outside, the vest keeps the core warm while allowing exess heat to dissipate through the pits. A jacket keeps that heat causing overheating.

It's a narrow window for the vest, but they are really good with cool temps.

they are also great for layers. Really cold in the morning? - vest topped with a jacket, as it warms up the jacket comes off and the vest is still plenty warm.

I would say wearing a vest to keep your long sleeves from getting wrinkled is peak 1st world problems

Seems counterintuitive but vests keep you pretty warm through your core. Lighter than a jacket but more than a long sleeve shirt.

Wouldn't a jacket with sleeves accomplish the same thing?

Until you get ridiculously hot, sure. If you're being active and need full motion of your arms, the vest is the perfect choice. I get hot easily (I much prefer being cold) and if I wear sleeves in the cold while exerting myself in any way, I get HOT.

Pretty logical, keeps Core warm and don’t have to take it off indoors like a jacket

It is for men who do an honest day of work.

Bulky sleeves get in the way when chopping wood, shooting dinner, working on equipment.

If your core is warm, your extremities need less.

Plus, once you start working, you don't necessarily need to remove a layer to prevent sweating.

On those cool days in the stand, I have a vest with me I can throw on. Keeps the core warm while hunting when a jacket or coat is too much. Wear one all the time in the woods.

I have a couple and love them when playing golf or fishing. Keeps the core warm and you have full range of motion with zero restriction.

I don't get the vest thing. I have a co-worker that wears one and I call him Aladdin. I'm also not going to take the the time to shite on vest wearers because I don't care.
It has to be below 40 degrees to even consider putting a jacket or sleeves on.

What else are you supposed to wear as a former frat star, 40 something year old, father of three who lives in CCL?

I probably have 5 of them in the closet. Most of them are too large since I lost some weight last year, so there's a couple I have been wearing the past few weeks. Put it on in the morning to drive kids to school and to work, without being weighed down by a jacket or coat. Warm enough to walk into the office, then I usually end up taking it off mid morning. And when we do get the rare day with morning temps in the 20s, it is a great layer underneath a jacket.

Which is why they are great for winter when you live in the south and have more chilly days than actual cold days.

I need a true winter coat maybe 5-10 days a year (at most) and I’m in NC, which is kinda the north end of the south

Growing up in the Midwest, I also don't see the point of them. From my experience, it's for people who think 40 degree weather is cold and is mostly worn by office workers who wear them inside their heated offices.

In 53 years you've never worked outside in the cold or never layered before?
