if i were in the market for a new truck - i'd like to get one, but prices are insane right now - i would consider an f-150. i like all the gadgets and extras, so i would probably consider a platinum model.

i took a quick look at the new f-150 lightning - the electric model and i am in shock. 90,000. not a mistake.

the gas model platinum is expensive enough, but who in their right mind is going to buy an electric model for 20,000 more than gas with a limited cruising range?

what is the breakeven point between the vehicles? it seems like to me that if manufacturers really wanted to push electric model, the pricing model would have to be more advantageous than this example with the lightning. i can't see spending an extra 20,000 grand when i don't expect to spend that much on gas in at least 7 years.

I like a nice new vehicle parked outside of my trailer at all times.

I mean, yeah, you gave the highest possible price.

It is selfish attitudes like yours that have caused the global warming that has led to millions of Japanese kids starving to death.

Equating buying a pickup with anything else is apples and oranges. A better comparison would be a Tesla vs a Toyota.

So your entire issue with an EV is price? If it’s out of your price range then it’s not marketed to you.

i gave a comparable vehicle in terms of level of trim. platinum vs. platinum. i realize there may be less expensive models but i really like the gas model platinum.

For many an electric vehicle is a status symbol and a virtue signal. They are willing to pay the premium for that reason.

For me, I probably look at it the same way you do. It's all economics. I owned a hybrid back when they weren't that common and it was strictly about saving money on gas for me as I was commuting long distances.

There really isn't much reason to buy an electric vehicle right now. If you just want a daily driver, there are a bunch of cheap and efficient ICE cars. When the infrastructure catches up and battery technology improves, maybe it'll make sense to buy one.

If you are buying a 70k truck than the 90k isn't that much of a difference.

I would imagine anyone buying the 90k version is more worried about the electric than the logic.

Another way to say it. No one shopping a 90k Lightning is cross shopping. Good chance it will be one of several cars they own.

I think it's a valid question. There is a mark-up on the electrics. Maybe in California where the gas is expensive the electric car pays for itself. But let's get real. Driving a Tesla is not going to stop global warming.

What was the MSRP on the earlier, gas powered Ford Lightning?

Guys who are “in the market for a new truck” are not buying these first edition EV trucks.

It’s people with disposable income.

If you own a small supply store with only local customers and deliveries . . You can make local deliveries and plug in each night.

That’s about the best I got.

Driving an ICE vehicle is not going to cause global warming.

Where electric appeals to me is the performance advantages, specifically some of the Hybrids that use the electric motors for performance and not necessarily to increase MPG's. Hell, even the Rav4 prime is pretty quick, I'd love to see that drivetrain in a hot hatch or sports car.

I don't see pure electric ever working in a pick up, you simply can't tow very far with electric and that is a must for me. I realize 90% of the baws with trucks never tow anything ever so maybe having an electric truck will work for them.

Yeah <300 mile actual range with no supercharger network is a problem for the electric F-150.

Just gonna have to get another 2-3 years out of my F-150 until the Cybertruck is finally being made. The full self driving tech, stainless steel body, 500 mile range, etc. make the Cybertruck worth the wait.

I will get my Grenadier before anyone gets a Cybertruck
