People from other states just don't understand how extreme the schools are in Louisiana. When I show them the statistics and rankings, they are shocked.
US News, Niche, and Great Schools are have objective information along with somewhat subjective rankings based on those objective facts (test results, demographics, and college readiness). People think they went to rough and tumble high schools in Oregon, Ohio, or Texas. Any of those schools would be top 3-5 schools in Baton Rouge or New Orleans.

Honestly, when someone says private school, Catholic schools don't enter my mind.
I always consider them like a third-type of school.

Magilda - if you are a product of Zachary how in the hell can you not agree that the system is broken?
You are from one of the better examples of how localized/neighborhood schools are superior to those controlled by a larger, more centralized entity. Central being another.
I've seen schools like Woodlawn, Tara, Broadmoor etc go completely in the shitter due to the way the EBRSS is managed.

You’re pissed. Apparently this is a sensitive topic and you don’t like the idea of an outsider questioning your way of life. So pathetic.
No what is pathetic is your broad, incorrectly assumptions about the parochial education system

You mean like the same kind of enclave that 3 our of every 4 college educated LA natives are jetting for in Texas?
The state of LA is fricked three ways left of Sunday, but it isn’t because people send their kids to private schools or even because of racism.
The state government of LA is the absolute worst entity in the 50 states, including MS.
If you were actually as intelligent as you seem to believe yourself to be, you would have recognized that already since you are in Baton Rouge.
And if you really want to see how bad the public schools in LA are, you should look up the stats.
Did it initially start as a response to desegregation? Most likely, but no one would be willing to send their children to the vast majority of LA public schools now if they were given the choice.

We deal with the same issues, but have fantastic public schools.
You probably don't live in the city limits of Birmingham, Mobile or Montgomery.

I’m not the only one with this view apparently. Its obviously been discussed because a lot of y’all are very passionate about this topic.

You get downvotes if you say racial issues but if you say "culcha" you get upvotes.

Ok scruffy, we can agree on that. LA is a sinking ship. I don’t agree that everyone works together. The state is so divided beyond just race. Nola people hate br people. Acadiana people hate br people. South La hates north La and so on and so forth.

Yeah, look at the schools that are right outside Birmingham. Vestavia, Mountain Brook, Spain Park, etc are so far above anything in Southern Louisiana besides the schools you have to test to get into (BRHS, Ben Franklin) and Lusher, which is kind of its own unique entity.
The same can be said for many other southern cities, too. BR and NOLA are more the exception than the norm, even in the south.

Zachary was part of EBRPSS when I was there.
We had better scores on the tests than they do now.
And the community has always been involved in the schools there. It was a point of pride for Zachary. Every game was attended, every school play sold out, every fundraiser successful because of the citizens of the City caring about the schools.
SG is not like that. Those people are not involved with the public schools there, and yet they want them to be handed over. Show me you really care and support the schools and I'll begin to reconsider.

They're really not much of a factor outside BR and NOLA.

Birmingham suburbs blow Br or Nola suburbs out the water. Hoover HS, Mountain brook etc. are all nice suburbs with good PUBLIC schools. Ascension or Livingston have anything similar?

Eh I don’t really care because I don’t live there anymore but the amount of doctors, lawyers, dentists, engineers, professors and successful people that came out of my school is astounding. It’s not really a high ranked school either. It’s probably more about the way they were raised.

We posted almost the same thing at the same time. It’s a fact that metro B ham beats anything we have.

St. Tammany.
And since we’re on the topic of St. Tammany, there are four Catholic High Schools in the same Parish as a good public system. Which goes back to my original point that the Catholic Schools are beyond a race or class mentality.
