It seems like the Riverside hate on the OT has died down over the years but we used to be at war with them.
We've all gotten older and the hatred has cooled somewhat. With that said, if anyone wants to buy a junker and illegally park it after putting a couple thousand pounds of crawfish and shrimp heads in it and let it bake in their lot for a few weeks i would contribute to that GFM.

You are parked on a public street or private property.
But the tow tow truck driver is the sole arbitrator in these situations. The government or private owner have signed over enforcement to shady organizations full of criminal records.

I've been driving over 40 years now. Not once have I had my car towed that I didn't call the tow service...

Riverside Towing is a terrorist organization. Prove me wrong.
Yep, back in college they towed me from my parking spot at my apartment complex in Tigerland in the middle of the night because my "tag wasn't visible". I pointed across the lot to my car and the tag clearly hanging from the windshield and they still wouldn't release it without paying. How they haven't been litigated into oblivion is still mind boggling to me.

How can a big truck just pick someone's 90k vehicle off the ground and then hold it
If we're talking repo, they didn't pick up someone's 90k vehicle. They picked up the bank's $90k vehicle. And the bank wants it back.
Otherwise, don't park like an a-hole.

Man I remember hearing stories about their antics when I went to LSU. Somebody I knew lived at Campus Crossing on Brightside. Riverside moved their vehicle to a no parking area to tow a different vehicle. When they came back they towed hers, too. It was all on camera and she still had hell getting her vehicle out.
There are ways to deal with these ppl. you could form a online group of volunteers that would follow their trucks and anytime they stop to do a tow. Get out a video every thing they do. No way they are 100% following the law. This combined with the fact that no body wants to filmed because all of their actions are recorded.
I would hope this girl was able to file a suit against these people.

Had some repo company try to tow my back and forth to work car. Beat up thing that's been paid off for 10 yrs or so. Good thing I caught them before they drove off because they wound up having the wrong VIN # or the dude couldn't read.

Did you park on my property without permission? If so, I will call a third party to take it off my property. What you do with the third party is on you. A towing company cannot come to your house and tow away your car.

Seems like maybe it would be a good idea to keep one of those on you instead of keeping both in the truck.

There are many reasons why one might get their car towed. Which ones do you think are unfair?

I just saw a brand new looking BMW SUV on a town truck with the alarm going off and never thought of the actual process before.
You sure it wasn't a repo?

I would have burnt that tow truck to the ground.

I could have written this exact story except after hours of bitching they finally let it out without charging me.

Towing companies are the absolute scum of the earth. I don't care how many nice anecdotes you might have about them. I have a hundred shitty ones.
When my brother and I were students at UA, he took my car downtown one night. He stupidly parked at the Publix on the strip to run in and basically pick someone up. When he came back to the car 10 minutes later they already had a boot on it. OK, fair enough. He's not supposed to park there. When he asked the tow guy how much to get the boot off it was like National Lampoon's Vacation: "How much do I owe you?" "Well, how much you got, boy?" Shook him down for like 400 bucks. Police wouldn't do anything about it because I'm pretty sure they were in on the whole scam back then. I think the city ended up doing something about the whole scam they had going since I moved away.
Down here in Florida, I was living at a nice apartment complex a few years ago. I had a real nice 2012 Tahoe that was in mint condition that I only paid like 4000 for. I didn't drive it much but it was registered properly and had legal tags and all that. It sat in the same spot at my complex for 2 or 3 weeks. One day I realized it was gone. I called the office and asked if they had it towed and they said no. I called the police and the bitch they sent out acted like I was trying to pull a scam even though the car was paid off and I didn't have full coverage on it. She finally agreed to go to the office and ask if they had it towed. They again said no. She wrote it up as a stolen vehicle and that was that. Two weeks later I get a call from the police saying they found my truck at a towing place. They towed it for no reason with no permission from the complex and were holding it hostage for 3000 dollars. Police wouldn't do anything about it even though the towing company had nothing that gave them permission to tow it. Apartment complex washed their hands of it. My only option was to sue the tow company. I decided to just let it go and let them have it.
frick towing companies. They're predatory and their entire business is based around taking shite that isn't theirs.

If you park on my property that clearly shows it’s for my customers only, you’re getting towed
Posted on 10/1/24 at 2:56 pm to ChiTownBammer
This is what I've never understood about it. If a towing company takes a vehicle without cause from somewhere and is shown to be in the wrong, it's "oops our mistake" and it ends there. If a fine upstanding youth were to do the same thing and borrow said vehicle, when they are caught "oops" or not that's considered theft. Why is it different if you have a name on the side of your truck and a hook on the back?

Two possibilities:
-You parked somewhere you aren’t supposed to be and your car is being removed from that place
-You didn’t pay your note and the lender is taking the collateral you pledged for said note.
In either case, I guess the question is how would those two scenarios not be legal?
