And the other half is in line at Checkers for burgers and fries.

To be fair, the same group probably bought multiple KFC Donut Chicken Sammiches. And loved it.

Do none of these people have cars? Can they not get a ride from someone? Take a bus? A food desert is defined as living a mile or more from a supermarket. If you are not capable of making it a mile to buy food you are basically unable to take care of yourself.

Used to be a produce stand on plank road. Just down the street from the Piggly Wiggly by Plank/Airline

There was a Winn Dixie on Plank years ago. Also another one at Lobdell and Greenwell Springs. There were several other stores in NBR at one time too. They all went under.

Even if they had healthy food choices they would still be buying bags of chips, energy drinks, and high sugar foods. Let's not act like its because they don't have the option.

I can't think of a single location in NBR that is a mile or more from a grocery store. I know where I grew up, the nearest grocery store was about 5 miles away, and the nearest convenience store was at least 2 miles.

There are a lot of the little meat & seafood market type of places in NBR. There aren't many full sized grocery stores anymore though.

The argument is some people live more than a 10 minute walk. I live NOLA and the Rouses is further than a mile from my house, the whole foods is even further.

hey just make shite up now. My parents live in bumbfrick and the closest gas station is 8 miles.

My grandmother in Chicago didn't have a car. Even in her advanced age walked a mile to and from the closest Jewel grocery store until she lived with my uncle in the suburbs later on.

We live in southeast BR and I can't walk to a grocery store in 10 minutes. There are a lot of them within a mile or two though.

They don’t take care of themselves. Our tax dollars fund their worthless existence. They aren’t even grateful for being born in such a prosperous country.

Speaking of doing something about it, a friend of mine is involved in an organization called Top Box to help bring healthier foods to the New Orleans area.

If anyone feels like getting involved or simply donating to help the community out, take a look at their website.
