I just upgraded to the "big seats " after reading this thread.
$50 U.S. per seat for a business upgrade?

Reading customer reviews, it's almost like Spirit goes out of its way to abuse and torment its customers. It's like Air Gulag or something.
Do the flight attendants greet boarding passengers with like, whips and guard dogs?

Yeah let us know about all those "business class" luxuries you get for that $50.
Look at all that luxury!

Never flown Spirt, but I like to think that their planes have propellors.

They fly Airbus a320s and the like so no propellers but still shitty.

Not on the flight I took. But they are incredibly concerned about the potential for a bathroom line. They have these lights that show if a bathroom is occupied or not and will lose it if you get up while the red light is on. I hear they at some point wanted to charge to use the bathroom on flights but the FAA wouldn't let them.

When we were leaving Vegas I saw a long arse line of people trying to get through security for Spirit airlines. No way all those people made their flights.

Spirit isn't bad if you don't plan on bringing anything bigger than a back pack. Flew from Houston to NOLA for $87 round trip once.

Ive only flown it from New Orleans to Houston. It was cheap and I only had to check in 1 bag.

I went on a Spirit adventure a few weeks ago. I decided to tag along with a friend to Chicago for a few days last minute. Flights both there and back were delayed around 3 hours. I didn't pay any extra fees because my friend flew a normal airline and took my stuff. They cram as many people as possible on a plane and the seats don't recline. It's basically the Toyota Yaris of flying.

Ive never flown them but I never will based on the stories I have heard, especially when it comes to the customer service when a flight is cancelled or delayed
The nickel and diming I understand and could put up with, but the shitty customer service for a cancelled flight is the deal breaker

I've done the same. Just booked a round trip Hou-Den for $150

Customer service is their weak spot. The company is doing a better job of advertising what it offers and what your ticket entitles you to. This isn't ground breaking, the Europeans have been doing it for YEARS (Ryanair, easyJet and Wizz Air to name a few). The key is knowing what you are getting into when you book, which can be nearly impossible if booking on Expedia or Travelocity.
The cancellation/delay thing is a problem. They typically offer one, MAYBE two flights daily between cities. In addition they have high aircraft utilization rates in order to keep unit costs down. That means they are flying at odd hours (say a 1am departure from Chicago to Ft. Lauderdale). As a result the buffer between flights (and even days) that can absorb any cancellations or major delays is reduced, exacerbating any operational interruptions.
On a semi-related note, Spirit (and Frontier) operations are a shite show at ORD, always arrive plenty early.

They get people who think only about the fare when booking, and don't factor in the costs for checked or carry on bags each way, cost to secure a window or aisle seat each way, costs for a soda, etc. Most times it is just as expensive or moreso than everyone else.

Yeah, I can sometimes get LV-Denver for $89 roundtrip for a weekend if Frontier or SW are pricey. Works out great to visit family and I just pack a backpack.
But overall it is a pretty shitty airline.

I've taken spirit a couple times on a one hour flight from here to vegas. Would never take them on a longer flight, don't fly them anymore even on the short flight. Their aircraft is old as shite, and customer service is terrible. I remember them trying to charge customers for small bags. Make sure that you print boarding pass prior to arriving at the airport, they charge 100$ I think if you don't, and also read the different charges and fees so you don't get surprised. Good luck with your flight
