Flew Spirit to Denver once from Houston. As long as you know all the nickel and dime stuff before and prepare accordingly, it's not a big deal. If you wait till you get to the airport, you are f'ed. My flight was smooth so can't comment on the canceled flights, etc.

They did promote their credit card the whole flight and stewardesses kept walking around trying to get you to sign up for one multiple times throughout the flight. That somewhat bothered me.
