You sound bitter and triggered.

I’m guessing your Braxton got relieved of his duties.

And don’t forget the coach's home and away colored oakleys. You forget that and you throw off Jaxxyn’s mojo.

You would think it was like life and death; the drama the nonstop gossiping among the women

talking about CHILDREN playing fricking BASEBALL

children baseball

It was like they were handing out MLB contracts or something

It was absolute craziness... I don't think I knew parents really got that obsessed over child sports

I wonder if anyone on here has a kid who plays on a travel ball team associated with Catholic High. They could probably add more details on this, but the amount of money the parents put out to be on those travel ball teams are insane. It cost around $4k a year per kid.. They play throughout the Southeast.. So travel cost.. And some of the complexes they play at.. Even charges each player the entry fee at the gate.

There are several teams for each age.. Supposedly the best way to make the team for CHS is to play travel ball for there... I guess what are like minor league teams. But there are over 120 something kids that try out every year... And there are 33 spots to fill.

To some people that may be a lot of money. Wouldn’t classify it as “insane”. That’s $333/mo.

Y'all laugh, but I wish the youths I me for could've done sports. All they do is school.

Totally agree. Have a 13 yr old who plays travel ball and he would have no shot to play in HS without it. He has a few friends that play rec ball and I picked them up one day after practice. Got there a few minutes early and the skill level is night and day.

TLDR travel ball isn’t about junior getting a full ride to college...junior probably won’t get to play varsity high school ball without it

I suggest you find a different high school. Let your kid live.

Travel ball may have started as a way to get kids “exposure” but now, as unfortunate as it may be, it’s almost a prerequisite just to play varsity baseball at the high school level.

But this is the thing. When you have... lets say 150 kids who try out, who all play travel ball and only 33 of those 150 make it the majority of the kids who play travel ball will not even make varsity.

So if a kid shows up, never played travel ball in his life. Tries out.. Is a trie athlete. Might be a little raw, but with a little work could possibly the best player on the team.. Does he not make it because he didn't play travel ball?

I am looking at it from a value side of it. I have a nephew currently in travel ball. I forgot how much his parents had to pay.. It was under $1k. So I will used $600 as the least amount..

What will a kid playing on a team that cost $4k get that plays on a team that cost $600 isn't getting? Does some of that go to pay a coach?

Depends on how much they travel, fundraising, how many tournaments they play. Most cost about 2,000/kid

Lots of kids make the team. Only the best baseball players will see the field regularly. The high school coach is judged on wins and losses. He’s going to play those that give him the best chance of winning. In my experience, the kids that played a bunch of select/travel/showcase ball are more prepared to compete at the high school level. There are always exceptions

Some of the elite showcase teams have salaried coaches. Some teams also fly in players from other states and in some cases other countries to play in tournaments.

You really don’t know what you’re talking about but Catholic is associated with the Knights program at the moment.. catholic has kids from many different organizations and yes some are from Tracrion

ETA; Catholic didn’t have a 150 kids tryout. More like 65.. and they keep a varying amount based on the quality of the class. Some years in the mid teens and some in the low 20s

Those kids were always going to start because they were always the most talented. If you have talent the you get asked to play on the select/showcase teams.

Maybe not this year.. What about 4 years ago? The 2016-17 season to be specific.
