It's the old chicken before the egg question. LA needs to improve itself with more job opportunities and a better quality of life if it wants to keep more of its college educated residents.
LA just seems stuck in the mud while most of the surrounding states in our region are improving.

It really is chicken and egg. Educated people looking for jobs and a quality of life do not come to Louisiana to live unless they were relocated here..
I mean the obvious question for anyone is would you? If you had no ties to this state, knowing Louisiana, would you intentionally want to relocate here?

It will be like steering the Titanic but LA must try to become more attractive to more businesses and development. That's one area where I think JBE has failed miserably as governor.

If more of those who believe themselves the best and the brightest stayed in the state and worked to make things better, the state would improve such that we wouldn’t need other people to relocate here.
And then more people would want to relocate here.
People leaving is the most fixable problem.

Well, the very first thing to do, as you alluded to, is get rid of the Democrats and elect and appoint those who are business friendly to sell this state and become more diverse in business and industry development outside of a very volatile oil and natural gas economy, and yes, capitalize on infrastructure already in place within oil and natural gas, agriculture, and the chemical industry, but we simply cannot keep sticking to the status quo like there is no other alternative or reason to be more diverse.

I cannot blame someone for moving to a place that gives them a significantly better quality of life, standard of living and overall happiness than Louisiana. Martyrdom is not the answer. It’s in holding politicians feet to the fire, and letting them do without when they’ve run out of revenue. Then they will have to deal in realities. Otherwise, it’s simply a political lifetime of kick the can.
Take BR for example. How long do you think they’re going to be able to fund things when the actual tax payers leave because crime has become unthinkable to live in BR? They’re going to end up with a whole bunch of takers and very few givers, and then it’s going to become another deserted American city the likes of Detroit.
You think SWB thinks of this? I highly doubt it. It gets in the way of her placating to her base, but the end result is going to be the exact same. People do not want to live in a sewer, no matter how many good old times they can remember having before it turned to hot garbage.

T-minus 13 days until the wife and I are out of this shithole and onto northern Alabama. I simply cannot wait.

Only difference in BR and places like Detroit are the jobs. BR always will have government and refinery jobs. That’s what keeps it hanging on

That perspective is pathetic.
I hope your wife leaves you for a BBC and you get laid off.

I’m in BR right now after not having visited for a year or so. It’s….fine. Basically the same place it was last year and when I left 10 years ago.
There are much worse places. BR just seems stagnant. Which is a shame.

Do you not leave BR because you’d have to change your screen name

Like who? Bobby Jindal? He was as conservative as they come and certainly was a friend to big business. All he did was continue to run Louisiana in to the ground. You may recall that Edwards actually signed tort reform into law. Blaming a political party is a weak cop out. The citizens of Louisiana are generally uneducated, poor, and unhealthy. Until the citizens demand accountability from themselves and elect people who give hard choices instead of pandering to the lowest common denominator the state will continue to decline.

This scenario is strangely reeking of bitterness. Catch your ex-wife with La'Quavius balls deep when you got sent home from the car wash, lil guy?
