But SNAP is not some thing to be nice to poor people, it's a subsidy program for the food industry, to keep them making profits and keep the entire industry in the black. If you have unhealthy stuff taken off, they put their lobbyists to work and quietly it gets put back in so they can get the government dollars, every time. If you want to help poor people eat better, support community gardens where they are able to grow their own food and eat better. That pisses off the food industry, who've fought to have them declared violations of zoning laws, etc., and shut down.

Bingo.
It’s all about the money, if it was actually about the people and their health then the SNAP program would look completely different. People should have a problem when it’s a common thing for people to use taxpayer money to go into a grocery store and buy a buggy load full of processed garbage. Having that opinion doesn’t make someone a Right Wing Extremist, it means that person has common sense.

The food in Louisiana is 100x better than anywhere else in the country

I'm so tired of hearing this excuse. I've been all over the country and this is flat out false. All our food is is a bunch of heavy creams and fattening shite. That doesn't mean it's better.

My wife, myself, and our 3 kids are all in shape. We chose to eat healthy foods that taste amazing.

Fat people just choose to eat shitty and have unnecessarily large portions.

I never pay that much attention to others in the waiting room to be honest and I was getting some pre-op work done for an upcoming hip replacement at Oschner.

Not sure where you live but there’s not an unusual amount of obese people where I live.

If you’re in rural Louisiana or any state for that matter sure you’ll see chunky people.

Tatted up

It’s pretty crazy how many people have tattoos now . Half of them are scraping by on rent/mortgage payments but have 10k worth of tattoos on them

Played golf today. Everyone except me is a porker. Stopped at clubhouse after 9 holes for lunch. They all had bacon double cheeseburgers with French fries while I had a salad with a grilled chick breast. Nothing against burgers. Love them, but if you want to lose weight, that isn't the way.

I moved to Utah from Louisiana.

Originally from Ohio, but also lived in Boston and LA.

All the south and Midwest is fat AF. That’s the middle of the country.

The western US and coasts are - generally - way less fookin fat.

To be fair, a lot of people say this because we've been conditioned for the "obese" needle in our brains to be here..

.. when a large % of older women and older men (35+) walking around are still obese and you just don't notice it as much. Even moreso when you get into the age range where the person in question is 60+ and they're long term married/not being sought out by random people for attractiveness.

Next time you're in a seafood restaurant or something, look around. You see a hell of a lot of people who look like this in even non-rural areas....

Many of us would say there's absolutely nothing wrong with these ladies or even this man if he was clothed, because they've got other things to worry about anyway... but the BMI scale would disagree. We wouldn't even notice them while out and about as standing out for any sort of shape they're in.

If we are looking right past people like this, this means our "overweight" measure isn't coming in until someone is well into the obese category.. and we don't even realize it. I know I would never see someone like this in public and think anything at all about their weight good or bad. It's just.. people.

Went to Disney a few months ago and the amount of porkers blew my mind. All of them looking near death from the amount of walking and the heat.

YouTube has countless videos of people “fat testing” rides at Disney. Pathetic and gross.

Weirdly, with these folks, I think their love of Disney (not the park -- the brand) and the ~magic~ is so strong it overpowers their dread about how miserable physically being in a hot park is.

No seriously. We live in an area full of yuppies. The cross fit gyms are everywhere. There’s constantly cyclists riding in packs all around.

$15 salad joints and other overpriced healthy food joints. I’m not exaggerating when I say I rarely see a real fatty. Sure sometimes I’ll see a bigger person but it’s rare to see a morbid obese person
