Roommate is almost 60, so that is a negative. For the most part, I rarely see my roommate. Between work and school, I'm rarely at home.

Question, are all your family close together or spread out?

It's weird a convo would come up like this if they all lived rather close together.

I just got back home. I hope these frickers have hugged it out because I want some turkey and dressing. If not its gonna be awkward as frick when I make myself a plate while they are still fighting.

So how does it work? They all come together as a family to prepare then share a Thanksgiving meal, and you're laying on the couch the whole time watching football?

Yep, it's awkward. There's a half carved turkey on the counter and faces that show obvious signs of tears being shed. The house is deathly silent too.. Hope the turkey doesn't taste like tears.

I was invited to join them. The roommate's son and I actually deep fried a turkey last year... I had just gotten home from work and was waiting for them to finish up cooking. The shouting started while I was upstairs.

My father

All the dinner was complete and ready to go. He flipped and took his arm, and swiped everything from the bar onto the floor. Sent us scurrying for our rooms. I was probably 10 or 11

I'm confused. You live with an old woman with grown kids? Or you live with a woman that was arguing with her pre-pubescent children?

I have a lot of North Lafayette family so I'm used to trashy arse holiday get togethers. Fortunately, most of the family has stopped getting together and the trashy ones just do stuff with their illegitimate children and jobless significant others.

Considering that we often have Thanksgiving or Christmas with at least one of my husband's ex-wives present, you would think a shite show is a guarantee.

Nope, I love his exes to death and we laugh our asses off at the stories we tell of life with him.

( I'm the one who invited them anyway, lol! I want his kids and grandkids to not have to choose who to split time with. It's all about the kids and grandkids that we all love. That is the common ground we all have).

my other family that is closer to my nuclear unit isn't THAT trashy. pretty low levels of racial conflict

i have 2, 1st cousins who are gay and openly accepted

some do love larry the cable guy and at get togethers you usually hear "it's like jason aldean says..."

my nuclear family is by far the outliers/outcasts and i have developed into an almost black sheep, which is always funny to me
